All this is true. But in the end, it lies with the fans and their attendance despite who we are playing. The perception was, I don't know if it still holds true, that our football fans didn't travel well. Even in our one (and maybe ever) major bowl, the athletic department had to eat the unsold tickets and we had supposedly only 3000 UConn fans at the game.

Look at Georgia's visit to South Bend this year.

Will UConn football fans ever travel like this?

We already have some posters stating they won't attend games or at least thinking about it because of poor performance.

If you want to play with the big boys, back your team like the big boys and fill up the venues.

So I guess our invite is in the mail?

Not a hater. I actually don't see how we could drop football thus I would like to see it thrive in whatever form it ends up for our University. But we do not have a big time football fan base. Hell we almost don't have a big time hoops fan base anymore.

Basketball is failing all on its own under a terrible coach with bad recruiting. If you're struggling at the bottom of the ACC after being handed a NC, the problem ain't football.

Then this is a problem isn't it? How can one expect to be invited to a P5 if we don't travel well?

Do we travel like Kentucky, Kansas, or UNC? Before you answer please remember it’s not 1994 anymore.

Almost? I was at the Cincy game at the AAC tourney last year. Been to a handful of games every year. Lol if you think our fan base is big time.

Almost?

We hosted the conference tourney in front of 183 people last year.

I was being kind because at one time we did have a big time hoops fan base. It's pretty much gone poof . We've never had a football one.

My father owned a convienence store in Darien was I was young - like 11-12, so 84,85,86ish.

I’d go down to work on some weekends and there would be a half dozen people just standing around taking about the team for long periods of time.

These days working in Hartford they don’t even come up. Ten years ago we’d have a ten person email chain circulating all day. These days you can’t give away tickets. I’m to the point where I hate the XL management so much even I don’t want to go much of the time.

We probably don't for football. On the other hand, I don't think they'll ever have a half filled gym at any basketball game no matter who they're playing.

Other than the sellout like 8 days ago right?

"no matter who they're playing"

Colgate - 7154 (70% capacity)
Stony Brook - 5431 (33% capacity)
BU - 6308 (39% of capacity)
Columbia - 3808 (37% capacity)
Monmouth - 6582 (40% capacity)
Coppin State - 3046 (30% capacity)
Wichita State - 15,564 (95% capacity)
East Carolina - 6,717 (41% capacity)

Kentucky's schedule:

Utah Valley - 19,807 (84% capacity)
Vermont - 20,174 (85% capacity)
East Tennessee State - 20,168 (85% capacity)
Troy - 19,548 (83% capacity)
Fort Wayne - 20,645 (88 % capacity)
UIC - 20,212 (86% capacity)
Harvard - 22,922 (97.5 % capacity)

Our numbers are abysmal. How can anyone say we support our team?

UNC went 8-20 in 2002. They've ranked no lower than 8th in attendance each of the past 18 years.

Kentucky had the death penalty in 1989. They've been in the top 3 in home attendance during those years.

It's simple, we don't go out support our team and no conference is going to give an invite to a school whose fan base doesn't attend games no matter who the opponent is.

what about all of the P5 programs that don't fill 50% for basketball? there are dozens of them.

There are. But the original premise was:

"Do we travel like Kentucky, Kansas, or UNC? Before you answer please remember it’s not 1994 anymore."
