Doug Bruno steps down

Hope this doesn't give Geno any ideas. Bruno is his really good friend but if DB is staying involved, he and Geno can still go out to eat on trips to Chi-town.

I know it's none of our business but I really, really hope that the health issues he dealt with this season have no effect on having a long retirement life.

A Chicago basketball legend, a great coach was got the best out of his players. A great retirement ahead for Doug, I hope so he deserves it.

With Doug hanging up his coaching whistle, Geno may now be the elder statesman of WBB coaches. In any event, it feels like the end of an era is nigh upon us.

I'm thinking Doug was the last of Genos Big East coaching buddies. Doug had a 35 year run and hopefully his health is ok to enjoy post coaching life. I suspect his new position as Special Assistant to the AD will be exactly as time consuming as he cares to make it.

My daughter and thousands of other young Chicagoans found their basketball muse at a Doug Bruno basketball camp. Hard to fathom just how influential he was in developing the game in Chicagoland.

Classy guy….i feel bad for the long time coaches and staffs that aren’t in the power conferences. It becomes increasingly difficult to put together competitive teams with the transfer portal and NIL with its associated economics. Most of been frustrating for him.

I think the loss of Aneesah Morrow was a huge blow to him and his team. But that's life in the portal world nowadays.

Bruno reported to the Courant that "he had a stroke at home in late August and 'was out of it' until mid-November but that he was OK now. He didn’t want to elaborate on what happened to him."
