I'm in Vero Beach, and we're getting almost nothing substantial today. We will have gusts of up to 70, which our house can handle easily, and not too much rain. So we've dodged a bullet. This will be a test run for what is sure to come next. We'll keep the poor folks in the Bahamas in our thoughts as well as those in North Carolina, who seem to be in Dorian's path.

I'm not 100% sure if this is Hopetown (mentioned above) or Marsh Harbor on Great Abaco, the hub.
Upon further reflection probably the latter.

Destruction is unimaginable...

There is discussion of evacuating the outlying Islands...water, food, shelter is mostly unavailable
Virtually impossible to get necessities in as waters are full of wrecks and debris.
Helicopters may keep people alive for a few days.

Where everyone will go is a big problem.

Also talk that the Billionaires enclave on the N end of Guana might come through with some big bucks. Be interesting to see if they do.

They can't function w/o the cheap labor they draw on from Great Abaco, many now homeless.
And we haven't seen damage reports from their community; perhaps not as severe

That looks a lot like what Waveland, Mississippi looked like after Katrina. I was on the ground with FEMA US&R about 36 hours after landfall for that one. If I ever had any thoughts of buying beach front property they quickly went away after that experience.
