Actually some good ones under Joe Shipouccie (sp) in the 60's and 70's...Morris McCloud?? All State guy in early/ mid 70's and went on to star at Quinnipiac.....

Back then they help their own with Maloney and Platt but I guess as of late they don't even play.heck in 77 we still played Wilcox in a home-home every year....not sure when it stopped.....was quite a rivalry actually
Those were great times for Meriden H.S. basketball!! All three gyms would be filled by the start of the j.v. game, standing room only. For those of us that were connected to the Wilcox team and got to know Coach S. we would not trade those times. He was a combination of Jim C. fire and Geno's wit and humor, it was really a great time.

Joe was a great guy got to know him when playing and also through Norb and Zaj who I played for. Norb and he had a fallout if you remember back in the day due to Joe bringing in "homers" to ref the games at Wilcox….oh the good ole days! I actually played with Morris in some summer leagues later on in age but played against his brother Willie throughout my boys club and HS days…………also if you are a Wilcox guy you know a couple other guys I played city hoops with and still play golf with…….Rich Pasinski and Bob Mielcarz!!

As anyone can see,Wes was watching the game with me,our son,John,daughter-in-law,Angela Kress Bialosuknia and,I think,Phil Gamble...not the least bit interested in the "hug fest."

A few years before that photo, Wes came out for a bow at an XL game and he still looked like the coolest dude in the room. That was why his recent passing came as quite a shock.
Thank you! He was so happy to be a part of the all century team announcement,?'01

It wasn't any intention of mine to imply that he was. It was more just a funny picture of Donny that happened to also capture a few other UConn greats, of which Wes certainly is one.

You are so right about the fall out,I remember when he pulled the team off the court because of the refs. If I remember Rich P. coached at both Wilcox and Platt.I dont believe I ever met Bob although I know the name. I know both Morris and Willie, but havent seen either in many years.
