I thought the game was called fine up until the inexplicable no call on the Rondo drive in overtime. It was a tie game, and Boston likely would have been up two with the way Rondo had been shooting. Instead, Rondo got clobbered and the Heat got to play 5 on 4 for an easy bucket. That no call swung the game, and Celtics fans have a legitimate gripe.
I think those crying conspiracy and all that are misguided and likely letting their emotions get the better of them (cough cough Bill Simmons). The facts are, the Celtics are a jump shooting team and the Heat have two guys that attack as relentlessly as any tandem the league has seen.
If you look at the free throw breakdown among players, the disparity really isn't all that surprising. Rondo attacked the rim, and thus got to the line 12 times. I don't see any Celtics fans crying about that. LeBron went to the line 24 times, which is indicative of the fact that the Celtics can't stop him, and as a result, resort to fouling. Do the LeBron and Wade get the benefit of the whistle? Yes. So does every star. It's not part of some greater scheme to get the Heat into the finals. If anything, the NBA would prefer a longer series and would have rather had the Celtics win that game.
The Celtics, especially Rondo, poured everything they had into that game while it looked like the Heat coasted at times. I think it's going to be tough for the aging Celtics to respond with as much zip in game three. Look at what happened to the Mavericks after two hard fought, draining losses to the Thunder. They got thumped in game three.
