The women did win the NC about 6 years ago, so that's not so surprising.

The men side, though, yes. I think everyone thought they'd go down the same road as SMU in football with that awful situation. Lots of talent in TX with a coach who gets recruits and seems to be pretty good on gameday as well.

Their Heisman winner was 0-2 vs UConn, though.

It's funny because when I saw the game on today I was thinking the same thing. They went from the cellar to the top fairly quickly and each team had a Marque player turn it around. And they were all recruited roughly the at the same time. But I'm sure it all above board. ;)

I'm okay with it! In fact I'm used to having top bball programs. I am interested in how the men's team will fare in the tourney. They are one team (like UConn) you don't want to see in your bracket.

I'm not accusing Baylor of anything, but I've always wondered how a coach like Scott Drew continues to get five star recruits to commit to Baylor.

Ding ding!!!

If it was a fluke player, ok. But when a coach with little to prove his greatness gets a crapload of these recruits, it is pretty damn obvious.

Baylor got into the Big 12 because of its political connections. There were far more 'deserving' candidates, thus Baylor probably feels it needs to prove itself more than other schools and has prioritized its athletics programs.

Then Why did they wait over ten years to start? The football program got one player. The basketball program is as dirty as a poll at scores.

its a great comeback for their basketball program. it wasn't too long ago that they had one of their players murdered by his own teammate and the fallout after that with coach bliss ....

I hate the old "they have to be cheating" stuff. What were the compelling reasons for Connecticut, or anyone else to become a powerhouse? Sometimes teams actually hire the right guy, get good players and win. Why should we automatically assume that something is going on?

Because we all know it's true.

I think the OP is questioning how a good coach with not much resume is able to out recruit a lot of other more established programs with coaches who have better resumes. It took a bit of time with some success before JC was getting top fifty recruits. The Baylor coach may be a great salesperson legitimately getting top recruits. But that is unusual for someone without a pedigree.

Is SouthTampaBill going to challenge Baylor to a fight now? Those 66 posts and 6 likes might be a good start.

Out of nowhere, with no history or reason, Baylor is landing some mighty big recruits.

Big difference is that is took JC several years of success to land top 25 players or McD's AA's.

JC inhereted Cliff, and truth be told, one of the biggest reason for Cliff coming here was his academics- which came to fruition Cliff's sophomore year.

Chris Smith was a top 40-50 recruit and was born in Ct. Nadav was an overseas player in a time when that was an emerging market.

Scott Burrell was known for baseball as much as basketball.

It wasn't until was had several years of success before JC landed his first burger boy- Donyell Marshall. Then a couple of years more before his second in KEA.

The amount of high school talent in both basketball and football in their own back yard is insane. According to some , 5 of the top 10 BB recruits are in Texas. That alone is an advantage taht we could never entertain

Kind of ironic that everyone is pretty much accusing Baylor of cheating, when on The Boneyard there is another thread asking why is UConn always guilty until proven innocent.
I think there is a difference between accusing Baylor of cheating and questioning how a coach with no resume is out recruiting other coaches. One is an accusation and the other is trying to understand how a coach accomplishes this task.

What's happening in Baylor would be similar to BCU all of a sudden outrecruiting everyone and becoming a top 25 team.

Think about it, BCU is the worst team in their conference, outside of a point shaving scandal has zero history, hasn't ever won anything in basketball, and by measurable standards is the sixth or seventh best team in its own state.

I just took a look at their roster and a large portion of it is from TX. It gives one pause as to how these coaches are able to attract talent to Waco TX, but I never like when fans of other programs accuse other programs of being dirty w/out much if any evidence.

I can understand when a program often seems to land some players that were rumored to be on the take, but I don't recall that being the case or not with Baylor.

I hate when others accuse UConn of cheating as a result of their success (and some unfortunate events that don't really amount to cheating.)

Has Baylor done anything to illicit the accusations in this thread other than experience some recent success with recruits from their back yard?

Deuce Bello is from North Carolina, so I don't see the Texas connection on that one. Quincy Miller is from Illinois. Those are the big time 5 star recruits that I find a little weird, but hey, if people want to go to a completely random D1A school to play basketball (even though they're nationally coveted recruits) so be it. It is kind of odd though. That said, Bello wasn't 5 star and he's close friends with Miller, so it's not that big a deal, just a little odd.
