After this loss, does UCONN still get one of the #1 seeds in the big dance. 2 are already filled. ND, and Baylor, with Baylor being the #1 overall. After that where does UCONN fall to. Granted 3 of the 4 losses were to ND, with the other being Baylor. The Huskies beat Stanford, and Duke, so that is a plus, however, both Stanford, and Duke won their conference championships. If one is to believe ESPN'S Bracketology, the Huskies will still be a #1 seed, with Stanford getting the other #1. It will be an interesting selection show, to say the least.

Yes, it was a done deal before the game started.

why wouldn't we? We lost to the top 2 not by much I might add and we beat the 4 and the 5 resoundingly

Still a #1 seed but I no longer believe they are a Final 4 lock.

Really?
Who to you think will beat UConn besides one of the other #1 seeds? Who will be the 2 or 3 seed in UConn's bracket that you believe might take them down? And also please explain your logic for making that pick.
Thank you.

The only question is whether UConn is the #3 or #4 overall. #3 means ND in the semi and #4 means Baylor in the semi. They will probably get ND in the semi since the NCAA generally tries to avoid teams from the same conference in the final.

There are only two teams who are in our league. how can we not??? Sadly we are stuck with Baylor and I just don’t see us getting out of the final four. Last I heard the three best teams will get top spots. Losing close games to teams 1 and 2 cannot drop you from 3. That’s why we are 3. Because we can’t seem to beat 1 and 2 but can destroy everyone else.

Come to think of it, is this a real question in people’s minds? I know we UCONN fans tend to get down on our team (especially after the 3 heartbreakers to ND) but are we really delusional enough to think we are worse than Stanford let alone any other team? Look I am a Buffalo Sabres fan so I know what it is like to be down on a team more often than not, but UCONN this year is no worse then a number 3

Of course they are....... the #1's have been set in stone for a few weeks..
I disagree because there was #1seed spot and a tossup between, Stanford, Cal, and Duke. If Cal would've won the Pac-12 tourney instead of Stanford, I think Duke wo
uld've gotten the #1 seed.

Why would you no longer believe that? What have they done to change your mind?

Thank you.

At the start of the year I had no doubt that UConn was a Final 4 team. That was when they had two experienced guards (one an AA) a most improved backup and a much lauded freshman in the wings. Foolish me even thought they had a very good shot at a NC.

Who can beat UConn as they are right now? I think any decent team can beat them if UConn puts together two halves like Syracuse 2nd and ND 1st. (outscored by double digits) Will that happen? I don't know, but it's a a better bet now than it was a couple of months ago.

I'll quote Auriemma once again "great guards win National Championships"

Unfortunately, I agree. We are still the 3rd best, but the variance on this team is higher now. An upset loss is no longer out of the realm.

1. They lost Banks, a huge blow
2. I didn't expect Hartley and Doty to play the way they have
3. Just recently (the last two games) I'm starting to suspect that KML can't
create her own shot. I hope I'm wrong.

I think that KML is wearing down...

1. Ok I can see that.
2. Hartley is actually playing better. And Doty has had problems all year. Actually I think we are better (at least against the really good teams) by spreading Doty's minutes around to Hartley, Faris and Jefferson.
3. KML has never really been able to create shots. She is actually doing better as time goes by. She isn't really able to create them off the dribble much, true, but still better than she was. Her "created" shots are most on post-ups, which she has been doing better at as the year has progressed.

I don't see any reason or anything they have done that would bring one to the conclusion they cannot beat Stanford/Duke/Penn St again.

I think Jefferson, Tuck and especially Stewart playing better lately, they can make up for Banks and Doty (though we were not really getting that much production from Doty anyway).

Other than not being able to beat ND and Baylor, that should not preclude us from reaching the FF. At that point I could see not expecting us anymore to be able to win the NC. But I fully expect us to reach the FF, and think it would be a shocking upset if we didn't.

lol is this a joke thread? Though the distinction between the Top 2 teams and Uconn is a bit clearer, the distinction between UConn and the rest of the field is extremely clear. UConn destroyed Stanford on their home court, and Stanford barely squeaked out wins against Colorado (lol) and UCLA. There's no question UConn is a #1 seed

I am especially saddened by the plight of Caroline.
I had really hoped that a 2nd year removed from her latest Knee operation, she would shine.
But we all know, that it doesn't always work like that, especially after so many surgeries.
Really a shame...for the team and for her.

Caroline has given us what she has had available and her gifts to this team likely will go unmeasured because they are limited in all the visible moments. Ask Kelly, MoJeff, Brianna and others what she has given to this team and my honest expectation is they will say, "Everything."

Doing anything with having had 3 surgeries on the same knee is difficult, let alone playing basketball. I was sure she would graduate after the 3rd and move on. She's a warrior

I guess I looked at the team at the start of the year and saw no reason why Hartley and Doty would not play at least at the same level as last year. They haven't - by quite a bit. The much improved play of Banks was a bit unexpected but again I saw no reason why she would not have been improved over her freshman year.

That was why I expected a FF lock and a legit shot at the NC. Now with Hartley and Doty's scoring off by 20%, the loss of Banks' points but mostly the fact that Hartley is playing a position that I don't think suits her game and I'm no longer confident. It probably depends on who shows up for the games, Jekyl or Hyde.

There will be discussion, but we've soundly thrashed the other candidates.
Of course UConn gets a #1 seed, that isn't in question IMO, but it may be the lowest of the #1 seeds. Something to consider - In 2007, the year RU made it to the National Championship game, they lost to Duke by 40 points at home in the regular season. They then proceeded to beat them in Greensboro to advance to the Elite 8. Stanford and Duke may play a bit more competitively in the tournament when it really matters.
