No one is waking up in the fall on a Saturday morning up in Chestnut Hill saying, “Yeah, it’s game day!” They’re saying “Yeah, big hockey game tonight!”If we go back to the early ACC invite, when Pitt was chosen over UConn, most of us blame BC. But I think the truth is that Pitt had a football culture that appealed to FSU, Miami, Clemson, GT etc. and UConn didn't. Not that we couldn't build one, but we didn't already have one. Pitt had Marino, Dorsett, and enough history. So did BC, however UConn fans view it now.
I think it still haunts us when either the ACC or Big XII considers UConn. Not enough people in Storrs wake up Saturday morning and go "yeah, it's game day!" There aren't many home football games, it's supposed to be a big deal. Even in Lawrence it was.
