DL Travis Jones headed to Senior Bowl

The one thing I noticed about Travis how well he holds all that weight. No way I'd guess he's 330. Especially with the way he's moving.

I think you have to give a standing O for our dearly departed Dennis Dottin-Carter. Travis came out of New Haven with enormous potential. But these video clips show refinement onto his god-given Power. He marches forward for all of us. Turn the page kid; you have a great future ahead of you.

We rarely saw that kind of explosion on the DL for UConn. It's crazy to think that Edsall came up with a scheme that ignored Travis's gifts.

Travis Jones is making the some of the best Olinemen in the county look down right silly. The dude is going to skyrocket up the draft with what I expect as a huge combine performance.

Right. You have to think he is gone by the third round. Even if he has some room for improvement his size/speed/strength alone makes him worth taking a chance in round 3.

He was always double teamed, even by Clemson. This isn't rocket science
Every team was well prepared for Travis. It's a shame Edsall most likely handcuffed Spanos's defenses for fear of the young secondary. Having Travis take up so much of the Oline's attention should have resulted in a lot of pressure on the QB by the LB's.

Travis is making lots of money in Mobile!
The Steelers appear especially interested as described by their on site scouting folks:
– Coach Tomlin looking closely at Travis Jones for much of the position work to start practice.
– Tomlins eyes are following defensive lineman Travis Jones and edge rusher Myjai Sanders for much of the opening period with the national team defensive line.
– OL Zion Johnson with the great one-on-one rep versus Travis Jones. Jones anchoring in and stalling his rush
– Travis Jones wins very next rep against Johnson with swim move over the shoulder
-Travis Jones with the long arm on Michigan’s Andrew Stueber, walking him back into the backfield.

He was compared to a leaner version of Vince Wilfolk by the announcers. They expect him to add some weight and be a monster in the middle.

2022 Senior Bowl: Daniel Jeremiah's top 10 NFL draft winners from week of practice

UConn DT Travis Jones

Jones was probably the most physically dominant player in Mobile. He consistently showed pure power. At 6-4 and 326 pounds, he was walking offensive linemen back to the quarterback the entire week. He's not going to be a scheme fit for everybody, but he's a mauling player at the point of attack. There was not much buzz on him coming into the week from the personnel evaluators I spoke to, and he made sure to get everyone's attention once the pads were on. He generated some excitement.

The kudos keep coming. It’s amazing that while we kept hearing he was highly touted by the scouts, many of us didn’t really appreciate what we had in Travis as we watched the games. The scouts saw it early in our season — that’s why they’re scouts and we’re not—lol. They also praised Omar Fortt and Ryan Van Demark. Let’s see how it goes for all of our guys. Fingers crossed.

“Top 5 Prospects Who Improved Standing After Senior Bowl Practices”
1. Malik Willis QB Liberty
2. Jermaine Johnson Edge FSU
3. Zion Johnson OL Boston College
4. Devonte Wyatt DL Georgia
5. Travis Jones, DL Connecticut

Travis Jones—It's important to not put too much stock in the offensive line vs. defensive line one-on-one drills because it favors the defense. That said, it's hard not to get excited about Jones' performance, both in those drills and during UConn's otherwise abysmal season. He's built like a bowling ball and his low center of gravity coupled with his ability to win at the snap makes him an easy guy to like. Especially impressive were his encounters with OL standout Zion Johnson (BC).
