Diana at last night's game

Great to see Diana there but more importantly, #1 prospect Kaleena Smith was in attendance.......I hope she liked what she saw from UConn.....
If she did like what she saw from UConn it will mean I have misread her. I will be very surprised if she comes to Storrs. But very pleasantly surprised. My guess is she liked what she saw of USC as a stage for her talents.

I agree with you that she's likely to attend a school other than UConn, but she's got a great BB IQ and surely must recognize what UConn would offer her as a player........other than NIL money that is...... ☹️

If I were her parents, I might foolishly point out that the path to starting at PG seems rockier and more crowded at UConn than at USC. And KK’s experience might look like evidence to such parents of the way kids like her have to bury themselves in the team dynamic even when they start.

Wiser parents might encourage a talented daughter to judge which coach she thinks would be better to work with.

I agree with your first point but on your second, she wouldn't be able to wear her Adidas signature shoe for games to get maximum exposure for her company. And they're paying her big bucks to do that. Keep an eye on the Adidas school where her mentor and business partner (Candace Parker) is a legend. Tennessee.

Reminds me of a thought I have, that KK is going to have a long and prosperous career in the W after college. There was a play last night, when KK got the ball deep in the back-court and she instantly maneuvered herself into the fore-court, even to create "early offense". Fundamentally her shot is adequate, maybe a little flat, and her penetrating and passing skills are certainly next level. I think Gabby's somewhat delayed success in the W has opened eyes. I think it's becoming pretty much common knowledge that playing at UConn leads to greater individual success. Analogy: Bobby Hurley when he came out of Duke. Damn!, before his accident.

Last year I saw her at Cafe Aura. I saw them play Seton Hall in Storrs last year. First trip to Cafe Aura. It was nice.
I didn't make a fuss but I commented to her coach, when he was out of his seat, that I hoped she would come to UConn.

As a season ticket holder who gets to every game early, I would agree with the bolded assessment on KK's shot for her freshman and sophomore years but this year, there is a noticeable difference in the "arc trajectory and back spin of the shot" of her mid-range and 3 pt shot. The pre-game warm-ups are wonderful to see and compare ALL the teams' shots and it is pure joy watching Azzi, Allie and Sarah shoot shot after shot with their form, arc and ball rotation. KK is getting very similar to those shots and will just need more repetitions.

I was going to type this in the post game thread but it may need or get its own posting but KK has improved a great deal from her first two very good years. Her play this year is elevating her game and name into the next level of acknowledgement-First Team All-Conference and possible HM All-American. The problem, as I have noted is HER guard class of 2023 is absolutely loaded with superstars. KK is proving why she was the #6 player in that class and is a true point guard and general on the floor. She's #1 in the NCAA in Assist to Turnover ration-4.88, 85th in Assists per game-4.3 and 63rd in Steals per game-2.6

I did like the pic of DT sitting next to KK in the locker room as well!

No disrespect intended, but any recruit worried about having to compete for minutes on their own selected team is probably not the best fit for UConn.
Which is exactly why I admire Kayleigh so much. She chose UConn after a single year at USC, with her eyes wide open. Plus, that spring she’s spent a few weeks with KK in a special guard camp. So she knew exactly what to expect and chose it anyway.

It probably isn’t helping that UCONN has a super point guard coming next year from Europe. The point guard competition between her and the returning three next fall with be awesome. Not a lot of playing time going to be available for a fifth point guard.

The player attrition issue is not discussed at UConn, but Geno has brought in a plethora of guards before. He can't believe they will all be around in 4 years, but that is not talked about. Things do sort themselves out, however. Gabby came in as a guard and was converted to forward. Once there were not only a bunch of guards; all had roughly the same first name. Breanna became "Stewie and Briana Pulido became "Polly." It was Polly who scored the last basket of the last game of Stewie's career. (Important trivia question.)

Aaliyah Edwards had an NIL contract with Adidas Canada when she played for UConn. Aaliyah also wears a Nike jersey in the W and for Team Canada

True but Edwards didn’t wear Adidas shoes when on the court for UConn. My point is that Smith wouldn’t be able to advertise her company on court while playing for a non- Adidas school.
