DePaul Post Game Thread

DePaul scored 60 pts and 10 of them came in garbage time. Many of their made shots were high-difficulty end of shot clock. Give them props for those. Our D was pretty stifling overall.
Well our defensive metrics will take a hit.

We shot 40% from 3 today but only got up 15 attempts. We’re too good of a shooting team to only get up 15 attempts.

I think the issue is we play too slow. We need to run more in transition. I think this would benefit Solo, Alex and Braylon. A la the tempo change the 23 team could do.

This season when we take more, we make more. Speed it up!

Much better 2nd half from Solo. He needs to create his own shot & beat his guy off the dribble and establish a mid-range game if he has any hope of raising his play to the next level. Relying solely on a jump-shot, perimeter game wont work as teams are scheming against him. Hope he figures it out. or else this offense wont work with AK & Mullins as much better shooters.

Basically, this team went through the motions today and beat a team soundly they should have beat soundly. The final score was closer than the game played out in the 2nd half, but it may hurt ranking in March.

Leading rebounder was Mullins, the kid does everything well. He made two steals at the end of the game when we were pulling away. No disrespect to Liam or maybe even Castle, I think he is better than both as a freshman. Yes he is not the physical specimen that Steph was but he is a better basketball player.

I think he is going to be a superstar at the next level.

Mullins moving up on the offensive option list was a real good move. In his last two games, I think that we have really seen the player that he is. He does things the right way. What an incredible talent.

Better shooter but better basketball player? I'm not sure about that. Steph won the NBA Rookie year of the year last year for a reason and is having people comapre his game to Shai for a reason after playing even better this season. I do agree about being better than Liam but I never was a big fan of McNeeley's game.

How do we square having one of the best resumes in the country, but sitting 9th in KenPom? One spot below an Illinois team we manhandled. I have to think we’re better than metrics indicate

Good team that wins games, but doesn’t step on throats of opponents worse than us
Because of the stupid margin of victory variable.

Hurley must not care about resume analytics at all. Marvin of Victory matters a ton

Looked like two steals in one transition. He sees the floor incredibly. Him getting the minutes and more touches has allowed me to see for sure what others have said about him. He is truly gifted to go along with being a typical UCONN unselfish good teammate.

I get your point but there is dare I say a Larry Birdish feel to Mullins game. In the NBA you have to be able to hit the three to be a superstar so far that is a weakness with Steph. Mullins by the end of the year is going to be nearly impossible to deal with for opponents.

Hurley must not care about resume analytics at all. Marvin of Victory matters a ton, yet they consistently take their foot off the gas at the end of games.
I don’t think he wants to risk injury to our starters. Lot of times players get hurt when you have a big lead and he doesn’t want Mullins or Karaban to miss the NCAA tournament .

seems odd that the "footer" to your post misses the last two championships
Been trying to fix it for a while. I guess i had to shorten it way down and shrink the fonts.

I like Stewart as we know he has offensive moves but he does almost nothing on offense in the last few games. He has to be more active like Ross is when he comes in. He doesn't have an urgent bone in his body and that hinders him on offense.
He plays a different game than you apperciate.

I appreciate when he hustles and plays good D but he has to do more on offense than sit in at the free throw line most of the game. He really had a bad game on both sides of the ball this one.

I'm happy for the win but i missed when we used to step on teams throats. I hate the sloppy play that the last 5 minutes of our blowouts have become. It's just bad basketball. Period.
I’ll take the win at Providence and a small end of game lapse today all day long….

Remember Michigan went down today - that could have been us.

What I didn’t like today is we didn’t really take foot of pedal w/ lineup and they were blowing by our guys - that we can’t allow regardless of score.

But complaining about a double digit win - that is good problem to have - let it continue!
