Not sure why we keep talking about Nowell - until DH is ready to use him, continuing to talk about him isn’t going to send a telepathic epiphany to the staff. Got to hope the guys actually playing get better.

I see your point, and you are right. But the reason we keep talking about him is because the team's main (and perhaps only) weakness is perimeter defense.
And having another PG who penetrate and dish the ball. Mahaney normally just creates shots for himself when he penetrates.

It’s moreso people say untrue things like Deandre got buried, when he started at the beginning of the year, or that he did a quick hook with freshman, something he did with everybody.

And then when it’s proven wrong the responses just stop or the spin cycle starts lol.

I still have no idea who Calhoun played favorites with that got in the way of letting talented players develop like we see today. Calhoun in his interview with Hurley even admitted he coached the talented guys differently which is what you’re suppose to do.

Starting at 11:20

nah, the responses stop because some folks don't want to keep going back and forth with you on the same dead and tired horse that you've turned into glue. it's exhausting.

If there wasn’t new evidence to add to the pattern every year there wouldn’t be a reason to keep bringing it up.

Hurley is selective on who gets the quick hook and who doesn't. That is no different than what JC did. The manner in which they employ/ed it however is different. There isn't the type of histrionics in Hurley's implementation. Which is interesting given Hurley's predisposition to lose control with the refs.

My take is that both coaches assess which players they feel/felt could work out their mistakes on their own and which need a conditional negative action to get a player to change.

On the current team the player with the longest leash is Alex. Next would be Liam and Hassan followed by Solo and Samson. The players with the shortest leash are Tarris and Jaylin. Jayden and Aidan are currently getting a little more time than Tarris and Jaylin to work out their mistakes than occurred at the beginning of the season. Tarris is getting less. Of course all this is modified by game circumstance.

The problem is it's your brain determining what is "evidence" and your brain determining what is a "pattern".

He took up your challenge. Read post #189. You may want to check your own universe. And let us know the location of that hill. Someone might want to lay flowers on it.
hahaha. Flowers always welcomed, though not quite yet. Listen, admittedly I have not watched the game a second time, though now I know what I am doing tonight after my family goes to bed. But my impression from watching the game real time is real simple:
  • Aidan had 2 or 3 nice penetrating moves---for a guard, that should be a basic skillset. If I were a doctor, having an A in biology should be expected, know what I mean? Well, a PG should be able to penetrate the darn ball.
  • He had 7 points and 4 assists in 16 minutes of play. He also had 4 personal fouls, which by my memory, all lead to 2 points on free throws. 1 rebound and 1 turnover. His play so far this year has been so abysmal that they make these numbers look good. The fact is that, in our championship runs the last two years, our back up to our back up was giving us better production. To wit, Joey California was giving more than what Aidan is giving us, and he was the second PG off the bench, to say nothing about Diarra last year, who was superb.
  • But I can live with all of it if he could defend the position. Is anyone on either side of my dying hill gonna make the argument that this kid can play D????
I aint dead yet....

  1. Penetrating moves being a basic skillset - Fair point, but if my doctor got an A in Biology then I'd be happy about it!
  2. 4 fouls leading to 2 points each - Foul #1 led to 2 FTs, but he cut off his man to prevent points twice and scored his own layup once in the few possessions before it. Foul #2 was due to bad defense and led to 2 points, but he had that great assist to Ross on the next play. Foul #3 was a bad call that led to 2 points, but on the next play he beat the pressure/double team and got a hockey assist for a Solo 3. Foul #4 - Samson and Solo miserably botched their assignments, so it was actually good that Mahaney fouled here instead of giving up an open dunk. Not going to argue against Mahaney being worse (so far) than Joey C/Diarra, that is true. But if we're bringing up this comparison, it's worth mentioning that Joey was nearly unplayable for pretty much 2 months before coming alive. Who's to say that can't happen with Aidan?
  3. Also not going to pretend that he is a good defender, because he's not. But he wasn't that bad against DePaul (already did the play by play analysis so won't go into details again). DePaul scored 68 points which is the 2nd lowest non-cupcake point total allowed this year. They shot 6.2% FG% and 13.5% 3P points lower than their season averages, so I wouldn't say the defense was a problem at all. Again, they were dead in the water except that second half run which was driven by Karaban/Solo/Stewart combining for 5 turnovers in 3 minutes and shooting 0-3 (2-2 FT)
Your issues with Mahaney are legitimate, but not on Wednesday. You'll probably be able to copy and paste that same exact message after a game where he does poorly and it'll all be correct, but not against DePaul :)

Hope Liam's ankle is nothing serious, just a twist. His ball handling is dearly missed in our offense.

is there a working theory as to why Nowell gets no minutes at all? Is he still not in game status? Just baffling why Dan did not even give some minutes to him when Diarra is in foul trouble and he wanted Mahaney to play off-ball, as in Joe's role.
I thought he looked pretty good earlier in the season when he played a little.
