So Diarra is up to 90 assists on the year for 6.4 APG which puts him 14th nationally.

More importantly, since Maui he’s at 57 Assists to only 11 TOs in 7 games. Or 8.1 APG and an over 5 to 1 A/TO mark. Those numbers are simply superb. And would put him around Zeigler for 4th in the nation purely on assists per game, if he could keep that up.

His growth as a player the last three years is simply amazing.

Edit: he had 95 assists total last year.

Watching the men and the women on 2 screens at the same time? Heaven!

The good -
  1. Loved Solo in the first half. Crashing boards, pushing breaks, great passes, then the threes starting falling. 7 3PM, tied for #2 for most threes made in a UConn game (Rashad, Bazz, Boat, Cam, Vital 2x)
  2. In the first 10 minutes we were running great stuff while DePaul was throwing themselves to the ground and praying for whistles. No surprise we eventually went up 20
  3. They tried punking Aidan Mahaney today, but he was up to the challenge. Box score isn't great but that was a good performance imo
  4. DePaul is the best 3pt shooting team in the conference and we held them to 3-12 while we were 14-29
Now the bad..
  1. DePaul flopped a lot, but we got outshot from the FT line 28-10, oh my goodness
  2. Get well soon Liam. You could see the instant impact on our offense when he went out, which led to..
  3. A REALLY bad first 10-12 min of the second half. How did that game get to single digits??
But at the end of the day Solo and AK nailed 3 threes in 1 minute to carry us home. Congrats to everyone who took -12.5 :)

I love Stewart, but he played 3 minutes in the 2nd half and we were outscored by 9 points. It was rough for him today
Ross gives us very little on offense in return for overly aggressive defense. Unfortunately Stewie gives us passive offense where he goes 3 possessions without going to the ball and is not consistently locked in defensively. Neither is a plus on either end right now.

I like to focus on the things Solo does well instead of his deficiencies and my god is he an outstanding shooter. If he has some space it's going in. I think he's one of the best three point shooters we've ever had. Six rebounds is nice too, he wasn't too successful driving but I liked that he drove.

Mahaney gave us enough when we were down to one ballhandler but I'm worried about Nowell never playing. Backup point guard is my one and only concern with this team. Diarra and McNeeley as our ballhandlers won't be enough to achieve our ultimate goal, IMO.

I also don't like how little Jaylin plays.

Hoping Liam isn't out long, he's so important in everything this team does.
He did rebound well today and stuck his nose in there in the lane for some relatively long rebounds a la Newton.

Still don't understand Ross over Stewart, I don't see what the coaches see.

Diana over Rod every time! :p

But seriously Ross is a boost for perimeter and m2m defense - at times Rickey Moore like - not there yet but he has that level of tenacity. His shot has the right form, just to the confidence to hit yet. Stewart is having a tough time finding his role on a deep team but he's so crafty and athletic. He's a very likely player for any reasons and hope his contributions are ones that fit the moment.

Hope Liam's ankle is nothing serious, just a twist. His ball handling is dearly missed in our offense.

is there a working theory as to why Nowell gets no minutes at all? Is he still not in game status? Just baffling why Dan did not even give some minutes to him when Diarra is in foul trouble and he wanted Mahaney to play off-ball, as in Joe's role.

We have different definitions of gruesome.
Not sure what anyone saw that made it look gruesome - was a light turn of the right foot. Standard fare. Looked minor if you watched the replay and if you’re not an alarmist.

What was learned most in this one is the drop off with Hassan and Liam off the floor. Win and move on.

Team executed beautifully in the first half and then things fell off the rails a bit. Same challenges and similar strengths. DH seems wed to AM. With all the call outs for Nowell, need to just realize he’s gonna ride AM.

I realize that DePaul's starting center was out (Skogman makes 47% of his threes), but still, excellent to see a fantastic perimeter D performance against a very strong shooting team (25% today, 39% entering today's game).
Nice defensive game by the Huskies. Contested everything and the switching at the 3pt line kept a defender on the arch limiting the amount taken and contesting the low number that were taken.

We won by 13. Stewart played 8 minutes and was -9. He was our only player in the negatives and this has happened more than once this year. In fact, he's been in the negatives in every game against a "major" team except for an even against Xavier. I really like Jaylin, but the +/- consistently shows that we give up more than we get when he is on the court. I get +/- can be misleading, but there is a major trend here.

DePaul - 8 min, -9
Butler - 6 min, -8
Xavier - 20 min, 0
Gonzaga - 19 min, -5
Texas - 8 min, -3
Baylor - 24 min, -4
Dayton - 7 min, -11
Colorado - 19 min, -4
Memphis - 17 min, -2 (He scored 16 this game)

We still had that walkabout on offense we've been getting for a stretch in the mid-second half. We can stop that any game now.

Two takeaways.
1. UConn, at this point in the season, is screwed offensively without Diarra or McNeeley on the floor.

This... And even with Diarra on the floor, we are scary when we are pressed. I know there are not many teams that do it anymore, but man we look so uncomfortable when pressured.

Solo with zero assists. WTF
He had at least one three he passed to AK that he should’ve shot. Passed too much if you ask me. And with his athleticism he should be thinking attack the rim too. He’s on the court to help others rack up assists

Diarra is nothing more than a 6th man spark off the bench.

/s just in case.
