DePaul defeats Coppin State by 25

This game was really close until DePaul went on a big run in the 2nd half. I watched most of the 2nd half. It was only a 1 point game at halftime. If Coppin St. got worn out in the 2nd half imagine what they're going to look like by the time they get to Hartford? Their schedule and traveling this week is insane. I hope the athletic department at Coppin St. is happy with the money they made this week.

Slackers. Loyola Chicago beat them by 60.

Coppin State absolutely needs the cash flow. The tough travel schedule is not as important to the university as the $$$. There young kids, they can handle it. They can rest in the off season.

Cant imangine why they play back to back nights twice in 6 days..money I guess but stupid!

.-.
Wow - I just looked at their schedule: 11/9, 11/10, 11/12, 11/13, 11/15, 11/17, 11/19, 11/22, 11/24, 11/27.

That's absolutely insane. 10 games in 2.5 weeks.
Just think how well prepared they'll be for the MEAC season after that. They have won the conference and gotten an auto-bid a handful of times before; I suppose these few weeks would also prepare them well for a potential first-round matchup in that instance. Their '96-'97 team was only the third 15 seed ever to beat a 2 seed (South Carolina), and they came one point away from beating 10 seed Texas the next game and advancing to the Sweet 16.

Coppin state playing a 7 PM road game Friday night before playing at noon Saturday at XL.

Should be fresh.

Schools like Coppin State and Texas Southern really do fund the athletic department in a very short period of time in Novembers and Decembers.

It wont be much of a barometer. Another chance to stretch their legs and get some rotations experience.

Modern day barnstormers!

Holy hell. That is beyond brutal. How anyone can look at this stretch and the fact that most of these are buy games explicitly funding their athletic department and not think players should be paid is beyond me.

Or at least protected against having to play that many games in that few number of days. Here's to hoping no player gets injured due to exhaustion.

I was watching this game, Coppin State's coach got ejected after 2 techs. Former NBA player Juan Dixon is their coach

Juan Dixon was on the 2002 Maryland National Championship team, who we lost to in the Elite 8. I hope we win by 50 on Saturday.

I don’t know why a player would play for a school that schedules like that.

I don’t know why schools like us schedule teams that schedule like that.

Worthless for everyone involved (except at least 1 AD).

Why? Because the only time they can get these types of games is early in the season. Coppin needs these games to fund their program. You can sell kids on playing against top teams, and kids this time of year would rather play than practice anyways.

I agree. Hurley always complains about how D2 exhibitions are totally useless and then goes out and schedules as many 300+ kenpom as he can find for OOC.

Love it or hate it, we've been doing it this way forever.

I don't think strength of schedule will be an issue for us this season.

DePaul is a great team in November

Reminds me of the Perno years :)

It's part of their business model and have been doing it for years.
The kids know this coming into the program - in most years it's the highlight of their season. They get to see the major schools facilities/arenas etc. I know that plenty of the soccer players I coached that went lower D1 would relish the opportunity to play UVA/Maryland/Indiana/UConn etc no matter if it was a straight month of games. It's a opportunity, it can only happen in a limited 30 day window due to holiday breaks and regular conference play.
Most are scholarship athletes who know the drill but if you think they should get additional pay for this or playing basketball - that's your opinion

Sometimes you take one for the team.

Sometimes the team takes one (a few) for the program.

Many people are on this board dont think players should be paid.....
