Delaware Post Game Meltdown

Brock was our DC last year as well and we ran the 3 3 5 last year too. 3 down linemen and then bringing a 4th up to the line or dropping back into coverage depending on the call. We lost a lot of talent up front form last year. New crop needs to sort it out and dig in.
Oh, OK, it is the bringing up the fourth guy that I misinterpreted. I thought it was a DE even though he was in a crouch stance instead of a down stance, but actually on the line of scrimmage.

I realize today that I take this team way too serious. I got overly stressed watching this game today.
I feel the same way. I think the problem is that every game feels like an existential crisis for us. This is primarily due to the fact that we are being kept out of a club for very little reason, and we've adopted the belief that if we just "win 1 more game, we're in".

The truth is that we could have gone 12-0 this season and STILL not be invited to a P4 conference. And teams like Northwestern can stink to high heaven and still collect 40 million more than us.

This is essentially why we go bonkers after every win and pull ourselves off of the bridge every time we lose...

I'm not going through twelve pages to read everything. I can't imagine I saw anything different than everyone else.

This loss is fully on the defense.

Scoring 41 points should have been more than enough to win. And yet, there is still the reality the offense can't put away a game in the fourth quarter when they have the lead and the chance to run out the clock. Joe F has another very good statistical game but still misses key throws (Bell on the WR screen to the left and the 4th down bad pass at the end).

I went in to more detail on a different thread but the 3-3-5 has little margin for error to work well. The defensive set and pre-snap adjustments need to be right and the players need to execute. Once the ball is more than 5 yards pass the line of scrimmage (either by run or by pass) the defender has to make the play. Missed tackles, poor angles and bad DB positioning all led to long TD's by Delaware on plays where the defensive call was right. Delaware's O Line abused UConn's D line from the first snap and dominated the trenches all day. Didn't look like much for adjustments from the coaches.

In the Delaware game week thread, I said this was a win for UConn and they should cover. I'll eat that crow but die on the hill of UConn found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory for the second week in a row.

And I'll end with this is Mora's mess to fix. Two weeks in a row both sides of the ball failed to close out a game UConn had a better than 90% chance of winning with less than five minutes to go. When both coordinators screw up two weeks in a row, there's only one person in the organization who they both report to.

To me, it doesn't look like the new QB coach has brought anything new, nor has improved Joe 1 bit. I wonder how he's doing with the rest of the QB room.

Well Stated. I will also add why were people thinking we were going 12-0 this year and kicking ACC butts 3 times? Did any of you actually watched our games last year. We improved last year against what turned out to be a weaker schedule than anticipated. Florida Atlantic, Temple, UBA, Rice and Georgia State all had off years. The only G-5 team that had a good year that we played was Buffalo. We improved but we still have have a ways to go to compete with P4 teams and blow out G-5 teams every week. Let root for the kids and the program and not trash it just because the improvement is slower than hoped.

Line issues did not help us. On offense Tank came in at RT in the second half and was struggling in run and pass blocking. On D we had a redshirt soph #50 trying to play line in the second half and he was struggling to hold his own physically. We really missed Smiley. The comments about the 2 and 3 man line on D are on point. Those guys get ganged up on and wear down. D-line depth is a real issue for the rest of the season.

Just another low G6 game right?

Not so sure UConn has improved YOY. You can't have a D like that and say you have improved. My guess is that Syracuse figured something out that UConn was doing on D, made an adjustment, and the rest is history. That was on film and Delaware exploited the same vulnerability even further.

And that would be pass the ball to wherever number 21 on defense is.

I don’t want to start a debate on the status of our current team. We clearly have issues on defense. I suspect injuries are playing a role . Our best corner by my eyes was Devin Pringle this year. He was replaced by a true freshman Gilbert who getting beat often in the Delaware game . Our best pass rusher Smiley was also hurt. Still, I do think there has been a big improvement in our program between the Edsall 5 horrible years and the Mora 3 years and 3 games. Let’s not give up on the program quite yet. There is still a lot of football in our season.

2 weeks in a row neither the defense or the offense nor the staff was able to execute at key times. They have lost me for this year, I cannot invest beautiful days inside watching their games live and probably won’t be attending any games this year. It’s not worth the emotional downside caused by the way they lose, because you know it’s coming.
Wow, hope hoops doesn’t get off to a rough start. Take up skiing?

anyone who put any stock at all in that UNC bowl win was lying to themselves. I'm happy we won, but not once did I ever think we faced THE university of North Carolina, during that game.
It was a big win for UConn and definitely means something, but I agree with you people should not overrate the win in the sense that they try to convince themselves they beat the best version of UNC. I was at the game as it was in my backyard so to speak within a short train ride. The atmosphere was great and it was a fun way to start the day.

But make no mistake about it, the Carolina players tried to win the game, but they did not care as much as a regular season game. Omarion Hampton, their best RB, did not play since he was keeping himself healthy and training for the NFL Draft.

Got to dig in and hang tough. It’s been 13 years of tough times with a ray of light breaking through last year. Progress isn’t always linear. We ended up on the wrong side of 2 OTs. If they don’t come ready to play and heads are hanging, then maybe you’re right. But until then, we need to support the program.

Guessing another month at least. I am not a radiologist or an orthopod. But I do know some excellent ones at UCHC. So I have confidence in his care.

One thing that drives me crazy with Joe and it should be addressed - and should’ve been already - is the utter incompetence of Joe when he rolls out to pass.

Joe treats every roll out like he’s about to be hit - he rushes passes - is not square - throwing off the correct foot. Result: bad passes, embarrassing ones at times.

Problem: Many times there is no rush - neither bearing down on him or to throw the ball but he still get’s rid of the ball like it’s a “hot potato.”

Joe take a deep breath, roll naturally out - that’s the whole purpose of rolling out - to give you some added time to make an uncontested throw. It buys you a bit of time.

Use this time to throw a pass accurately, and off the right foot.

I would have him throw 75 times to practice this with his receiving core every day this week!

It's typical Boneyard low football IQ stuff. This was a trap game too. The offense is pretty good. The defense was horrific.
UCONN football does not have trap games>

My take is that a trap game is when a clearly better team is playing a clearly lesser opponent and they take that team lightly because they have a game against a highly ranked opponent the next week.

UCONN is not good enough to have "trap" games.

Some guys on this team just don’t wanna win bad enough. I don’t pay for ESPN plus, and Storrs central to see this crap.

Coaches have to stop talking and start producing and the players aren’t blameless either.
blame? I've been thinking a lot about Lew Perkins lately...
