Delaware Post Game Meltdown

We looked good on offense. Just not when it really counted. We will get em next time…….

UConn Football with loser plays at the most critical times in the game that could close the game out. A complete repeat in some ways of the Syracuse game.

-3rd and 2 and 4th and 2 where a first down wins the game and they can't convert as they get stuffed with Delaware with 9 in the box to stop the run and then Fagnano throws behind Honig so he can't pick up the yards
-3rd and 18-allow 9 yard QB run and gets out of bounds to stop the clock
-following 4th and 9 Chadwick with the PI on a throw that was short of the sticks to keep the Delaware drive alive

Having the mentality to know how to win sounds cliche, but it's a real thing and this team doesn't have it.

I mean. What do you even say.

DE completed so, so many 3rd and longs. So many times we could have forced an out and we didn’t. Time after time they converted. Multiple 4th down conversions. The tackling was so bad. And we gave their QB all day in the pocket.

Offense put up points. Some missed opportunities but not the real reason we lost.

End of game management once again was horrible. Bad offensive play calling; should have been able to get a TD at the end and put the game out of reach. Barring that, we HAD DE on a 4th and long and yet again had a terrible penalty that bailed them out.

We should have scored a TD in OT. Just bad football.

This season is in danger of going— if not starting — to go off the rails quick.

I knew our D-Line would be an issue this year. I never expected the linebacking play to be so bad. I don't see anyone on this team playing on a level even close to our starting 3 linebackers last year.

Move on from Fagnano. Need a mobile QB see what Evers can do and if he is not the answer then you know for next year. On the fourth and 2, if he makes a decent pass to the receiver it's a first down, game over. OT, if he leads the TE he walks into end zone. Throws it behind him. He has no accuracy and no mobility
Joe missed quite a few easy throws, and that miss to TE sealed our fate. Our D didn't play well all day giving up yard after yard.

Just numb right now.

Can’t argue with that.

I said this in the chat but I’ll leave it here….

Last week wasn’t a step back for us but a missed chance to make that next progression that this program should be making, beating a P4 school on our schedule. This game, was a massive leap backwards. Last year we beat every G5 school we played, showing we did what we should have done. This year that should have continued and it looks dim that we will break .500. Which is pathetic with the weak schedule we have.

The coaches need to figure this out and the players need to take a hard look in the mirror to see if they really have what it takes to win and if they want it bad enough.

Fagnano choked plain and simple. He misses a lot of easy throws. Evers was so bad last year, so Fagnano was like see a mini glass of water in the desert.

The defense is weaker than wet toilet paper.

The defense is reminiscent of Edsall 2.0

Terrible angles. Terrible tackling. Guys in the wrong spots. Dumb penalties on 3rd and 4th down. Not big enough to hold our ground at the LOS. Not fast enough in the secondary to catch anyone. Guys bouncing off shoulder pads. Heads down all the time.

Horrendous effort today. They seemed like they didn't want to be there.

our offense is alright, good enough to get us enough points to have a chance every week. That would have been enough, under one critical assumption:

to have any chance at a season, we needed to play our faces off on Defense, as we did in '24. It is now glaringly obvious that Defensively, we are a shadow of our past 2 years. with the loss of jalani, pryce, jackson, Jayden mcdonald, and others, we are back to a 2021-and-prior level of Defensive talent. And in the era of NIL, that is disappointing to see. Brock showed what he can do when he's got dawgs in his pound. this year he's got nothing to work with. That's on Jim Mora and the recruiting staff. They utterly FAILED FAILED FAILED to re-tool this defense.

Given that reality, I must put us at 5-6 wins tops this year. Jim Mora deserves some grace, but this AD has to make some tough decisions this summer about whether they want to spend the money necessary to build a P4 team.

Not good enough. When it came time to close out the game with a first down, they couldn't get it on a 3rd and 2 or a 4th and 2. And they had to settle for a FG in OT with the ball at the 2 yard line.
Sorry, I added to the previous post. I am sick to my stomach. I don’t want to jump from the ledge, but after this game I have to cling on to any positive I can.
