SEC has probably 12 teams that can make the NCAA tournament. For a football conference they are playing pretty good basketball this year.

There's been a different shift nobody is talking about. Back when the early Big East started the truly big recruiting areas were NY/NJ, DC & Baltimore, Philly, Chicago, Detroit, LA. Now the talent is often in the same place as the football talent. The other factor is that the SEC/ACC schools have become more popular for northern kids (this is true outside of athletes as well). Add in the money factor and it's a recipe for success. The ACC should be able to benefit as well, but they haven't.

Some conferences have good years and other have down years, but they generally stay within a range. The SEC is pretty good this year, with four legitimate Final Four caliber teams (Alabama, Kentucky, Auburn, Tennessee), a few more Sweet 16 caliber (Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State, Mississippi), and a few more that will be fighting for bids. 15 of the 16 members of the league could go .500 in league play and get a bid, which is impressive, and even the worst team, South Carolina, is not bad. But despite having had such a strong year, the SEC is still only 17-12 against the Big 10, Big 12 and Big East, and the wins are mostly close, with only 6 of those wins by double digits, and 5 of the losses by double digits. But the SEC is completely dominating the ACC, with a 26-3 record against the ACC, and 18 of those wins by double digits.

The Big East is having a down year this year, and a down year means that it has maybe one or two Final Four contenders and maybe three or four teams that even have a reasonable shot at making the Sweet Sixteen. It has a team that is really bad, Seton Hall, that is picking up some bad losses and has another, Villanova, with a coach that is in over his head and loses to teams it shouldn’t lose to. It is still .500 against the other majors but has picked up a few more mid and low major losses than it should have. That is what a bad year for a major conference should look like.

The ACC is 14-43 against the other majors, and many of those losses are blowouts. By way of comparison, the A10 is 8-12. Over half the ACC is outside the Top 100 in the NET, and that includes some weird NETs like UNC which is getting rewarded for getting blown out by good teams. Less than half the league would get a bid if it went .500 in league play, and it is only the first week of December. That number is likely to go down. The ACC is looking like a 4 bid league, out of 18 teams.

The Pac 12 had some really bad years, but with the P4 leagues getting so big, you would have expected a regression to the mean, not one league falling off a cliff.

The ACC’s primary expansion strategy is to make BCU happy by not taking UConn. Not working out that well for the ACC.

Folks have gotta stop with this notion that the ACC is unhappy. They are in the P4. Two conferences that didn’t adapt aren’t.

They have a conference network, one of the P4 doesn’t.

They haven’t played everything right, but they have done pretty well for themselves.

SEC and B18 have loads of money, is filtering into M&WBB - coaches and players. Will be tough to keep up, not as bad as football but still up hill climb.

But it did elevate the conference's academic profile. Maybe they were trying to compete with the Ivy League.

The ACC ended up with a 2-14 record against the SEC. How is that possible for a major conference to put up that kind of performance against another major conference? Just random probability should put the floor around 4 wins, with a smattering of close games. Through tonight, I think the SEC is 26-3 against the ACC this year, and 18 of those wins were by double digits.

The SEC is 4-3 against the Big East, and 3 of those 4 wins were by 4 points or less.

Has the ACC fallen that far?

Yes, they really suck. It’s why they took a bunch of time last year to trick people like you into believing the actual issue was other conferences manipulating the metrics. That’s a way better narrative for them than their conference being terrible with a bunch of meh coaches.

This surprised me a lot, too. I remember him being on the top of the list for portal transfers. Looking at his game log you can see he barely gets any minutes when UNC plays better competition, that doesn't mean American University where he got 21 minutes.

My take:
Alpha dogs. Liam for now and a couple in the wings: Nowell and Abraham. If we want a killer team we need to get the bench involved. Reed has the potential to be on "Wanted" posters as well. The double center was a good look. Steering the traffic into that tandem might be a little scary for the slashers. Old school short rotations will not be this teams strength. Very important: Alex will be the glue guy and looks like Liam is going to shine.

LOL. There is a video from a couple of weeks ago when Donovan went on a rampage blocking shots and the fans kept chanting "Cling-Kong, Cling-Kong" every time he went on defense. The young man has found a home out there!

Didn’t they tee up a TCU freshman for saying something to the X bench after hitting a three? Refs aren’t messing around this year apparently.

I never knew exactly what that was supposed to mean. I think its a bad look because it simply looks like somebody shooting up. A lot of young people watching games. Who is to know it means "ice in the veins." Find another image.

That said, calling a technical is ridiculous on account of people having used it everywhere for more than a year along with other images (The telephone call, three fingers and circle etc.)
