Death Storm, Jan 2026

where in NJ? Friends in Summit said it turned to rain/sleet so not as much as expected

Morris County... and it just started snowing again

Snow totals as of this morning are way less according to the national weather service and local CT news than what people are posting online and in this thread. Highest total in CT is Winsted with 18.7 inches, Storrs 13.8 inches. Highest in Rockland County is New City with 17.6 inches. Highest in NJ is a couple of towns in Sussex County with 17 inches.

I checked 7 different places in my yard so I wasn't cheating and using drifts. Storrs in my hood is 18-20.

I was just going off what the weather app on my phone says

Though apparently everyone is complaining that Apple is way off with their estimates

Here in suburban Boston it's hard to measure because it's so light there's a lot of drifting. It was somewhere between 13-18". I didn't enjoy clearing the driveway, even with a snowblower.

I keep saying this is my last winter, really need to make that reality. I'm done with this nonsense.

Reporting from slightly overcast but reasonably warm fla....it's not bad down here. Though we do head north to escape the summers. Putting the snowblower for sale online was therapeutic.

People here are stressed because it's going to drop below 40 tnt..lol

It definitely depended on whether and when it switched (and switched back). I estimate around 19" in Northern NJ. First run with the snowblower was easy. All fluff. Second run around 10 was still not too bad except for the sidewalks from the plows. Finished off with an easy couple inches this morning, except for the sidewalks with about 6 more plow inches.

Walking the dog this morning, many hadn't done any clearing. The sidewalks are going to be very tough to clear. We get 24 hours to clear sidewalks and then they start fining people.

Check the time when those figures were reported. I saw 13.8 in Storrs yesterday long before the snow wound down.

I got one inch more than the highest total posted on here even if the post is after mine.

I win
I got 2 inches more than the highest snow total post on here even if the highest total is yours, so...

Yea I guess I’ll believe the NWS and Scot Haney who slept in a studio over myself…who actually went outside, cleared snow, and while doing so, measured with a yardstick in multiple spots.

Don’t look now but we’re gonna be doing the same thing next weekend
Definitely conflicting forecasts. Weather.com is saying snow showers up to 1" while Apple is saying 8" or so in NJ, Accuweather saying "chance of snow" (35%) but they have a story saying it could move offshore. Hoping Apple is wrong.

I know it's old but.... you know why the call them weathermen?? Cuz they don't whether it's gonna rain or whether it's gonna snow. 🙃

After three short shoveling sessions yesterday to "keep up with the snowfall" here in ESPNtown and a long hour out there this afternoon trying to figure out where to throw the shovelfuls of snow, I'm damned exhausted and cannot fathom that we're at risk of getting more snow this upcoming weekend. It had better just be a dusting.

It's funny because I live in Eastern Virginia. At the beginning of the week they were predicting 18 to 24 inches for where I live. We ended up with about an 1 to 2 inches with a quarte of an inch on top.
We had no school today and it is already cancelled for tomorrow and I would be surprised if we had any on Wednesday. They're just not equipped to deal with snow down here, let alone have any chance with ice.
Now they're predicting 8-12 inches for this weekend.

The good thing, is theses are remote learning days so they don't count as school days. With the kids who are signed up, we sent grocery bags with meals home with them on Friday.
