On what planet? He's slow, isn't some freakish dunker, can't beat a man off the dribble, doesn't play good defense. I have no idea how he got so high in the rankings unless he becomes the second coming of Rashad next year.
I didn't say he was a freakish athlete, just that he was above-average. He is not LeBron James but he isn't Rashad Anderson either. He doesn't lack athleticism. He's agile, has good body control, decent quickness at 6-8, and has potential to be a good defender. Add to that long arms and good stroke and the potential is there to be a very good player.

I've seen him practice and scrimmage and he definitely has a beautiful shot from outside. He was visibly rattled at times last year and later in the season when he would hit a big 3 it seemed that on his next shot he would be over excited and overshoot every time. With more playing time, these things tend to resolve themselves so there is definitely room for DD to step his game up from the outside. Some kids can easily temper their excitement and nervousness and others struggle with it. Hopefully Daniels can learn to be a little better in this area.
Confidence was the issue this season. With hard work and more playing time, these issues will resolve themselves.

He needs to learn how to dribble

And he needs to play at the speed of the college game

Everything else is there for him to have the chance to be a very good player

watch his hs highlight reels, the kid has handle

Think he's a pretty good shooter and will be a better plyer for us next year as he knows what it takes......look forward to a more confident Deandre

He's definitely not slow. I think he's pretty fast. Do you mean quickness? This kid can get from the perimeter to the hoop in a heartbeat.

Uhh I watched the actual games this year, he was not able to dribble effectively at the college level

Those highlight reels can make anyone look like Lebron

I completely disagree with you about a highlight reel making anyone look like Lebron, a camera only takes what it sees. I think his problem this year, and a problem a lot of highly ranked players have coming to UConn, is getting used to Calhoun's quick hook. These are kids that played every minute every game in AAU and HS, and getting pulled after a bad shot takes some time getting used to. I expect him to improve drastically next season.

I'm quite sure he will improve too, he's got gifts. But if his handle doesn't improve drastically... he's going to be limited to spotting up outside and Uconn needs much more from him than that.

I agree with you that the quick hook thing hurt him in his frosh season, but when he was in there his handle was very poor... And his mix tapes make him look like a tall John Wall...

The thing about those tapes is that the level of competition, even for the top players, is often all over the place... If they're playing legit teams then, yes, teh tapes show what they show... but often their big highlight plays occur against pathetic opposition

If only Roscoe could finish half as well as this kid. He needs PT and I don't understand why he didn't get more of it.

I remember Ray working with Hobbs after his Fr season on ball handling. It payed off big time for Ray and hopefully DD will work with Karl this summer to enable him to get the looks he needs to increase his shooting percentage. A kid with that talent is looking at making a lot of $$$ at the next level if he works at his weaknesses!

Breaking news. Deandre Daniels was a freshman last year. Sometimes freshmen play like freshmen. He will be better.
I don't think this is breaking news.
I think this is well known.

Daniels was just hard to rate this year.

He had instances where he looked very athletic and gifted but they were few and far between. He also had instances where he looked gangly and uncoordinated.

From what I remember:

Most of the form on his shot is good but he has two serious flaws. He does not have a consistent release point on his jumpshot and he does something very odd with his shooting hand on the follow-through.

His handle is good for being 6'9 but it's not great (better than Rudy as a freshman but not Rip as a freshman). It's good enough to help being the release point against the press but not good enough to take people on one on one.

His rebounding and defense were really hurt by his frame, he seems to have good hands and his length is very impressive, but he gets out-muscled a lot down low and by screens.

He gets up and down the court well, but doesn't have "elite" speed. Same could be said about his leaping ability. He is more a Roscoe dunker (all length) than a Stanley dunker (jump out of the gym).

I expect he will be in the weight room a lot, which he needs more than anyone on the team.

Caw when has DeAndre Daniels ever looked very athletic:confused: . I have told everyone from the ebginning that this guy is not good and wont be that good at UCONN. He has an awkward shooting motion and doesnt get off much from the ground when shooting meaning he will get blocked alot and miss alot of shots.

Also, Daniels has very bad lateral quickness and is stiff in the shoulders and hip area which is not good if you are a perimeter player. He has below average athleticism for his height and when he jumps for a dunk he barely gets up there and looks like he is going to hurt himself. Roscoe is a much better all around athlete that its not even comparable.

P.S. Daniels needs to do more yoga for flexibility than anything the in the weight room will do for him. He also needs to improve his jumper if he ever wants to be a good player.

Awkward shooting motion and doesn't get off the ground? He has a nice stroke and explain to me how many guys have what you would say is a "real" jumpshot?

He's long enough to get his shot off and needs to get stronger to be a better player in all area's but to most who watch, has plenty of potential and only fans who know little would say he will never be good!!!............................oh it's you huskymagic I'm sorry you get a pass!!;)

Seriously, what did DD ever do to you. Did he seal a lollipop? It's obvious that he's very talented. I don't get it. You seem to have a personal vendetta. I wouldn't be surprised if he was our leading scorer next year. He will certainly be close to that. But you hate on him and SN, who showed the most heart and leadership this year. Again, I don't get it.
