I wish him the best of luck but honestly I think he made a mistake. He is a borderline 1st round pick this year according to just about everyone. I think he should have come back, been the focus of the offense, had a big year, and could have potentially been a lottery pick in next year's draft which will be significantly less talented.

He's making the right decision. His stock won't be higher unless he has a sensational senior year. Did not workout for guys like Russ Smith. If DD had a better championship game he would have probably been a lock for the 1st round. Now he'll have to impress in the workouts and interviews.

He could have improved his stock quite a bit but I still think he's going in round one. Can't fault a kid for following his dream.

Very doubtful he would have improved his stock? You don't think being the focal point of the offense would have improved his draft stock?
 
The kid came here with NBA aspirations. He remained loyal to the program. He helped win us a 4th title. I couldnt be happier for him. Go get 'em DD.......you deserve all the success that is coming to you. Can't wait to see you represent in the stands at our next final 4.

Understand, but there's a whole other thread debating this. Let's just give him the love in this one.

I don't disagree with what you're saying… I just think it's too risky…. It looks like he's a late first round pick right now… An inconsistent year will push him out of the first round next year, leading to non-guaranteed money v. a 3-year deal with guaranteed money if he leaves this year ($3M)...
 
Best of luck to DD. He made huge strides in his time as a husky and he went out a champion, can't ask for anything more from anyone that wears the uniform. Hope he gets taken in the first round and has a productive NBA career.

With that said - looking forward to next year, the four is going to be a huge issue for us. Our backcourt is loaded and Brimah/Nolan will be great at the 5 but our options for the 4 are basically Facey and Lubin as of right now. Facey is a talented kid and has shown some glimpses of his potential but it would have been nice for him to have another season to mature. I think Lubin will be productive for us down the line but frankly don't see him contributing much as a freshman. I'm not sure that going big with Nolan and Brimah out there together is an option and I'm not sure that sliding one of our threes (Calhoun or Hamilton) is an option either. I have faith that KO will figure something out but that's easily the biggest concern for our team going into next season.

Not a shocker, wishful thinking on our parts hoping he would come back. Honestly it would have been a dumb decision for DD not to go pro, his game is made for the NBA.

Thank you for your 3 years, and for being a big part of winning us a national championship, and for that you get rewarded by hopefully being a 1st round pick. He was clutch for us not just in the tournament, the big 3 against Indiana, the tap out to Shabazz against Florida.

Going to be tough for sure and the pressure is now on Facey to take some big steps this offseason. I'm really hoping that Lubin can come in and give us competent defense and rebounding from the four. If he can do that, I'll be more than happy.

I think he would have been late lottery is he had the senior year I thought he could have but if he is a guaranteed first round pick this year he's right in going. Love the kid and wish him major success in the NBA, thanks DD.

Congrats and best wishes. His performance in the national semi final against Florida was an all time performance for a UConn player in the FF as far as I'm concerned. His drive and dunk against UK early I felt help set the tone that UK wasn't going to dominate our bigs. Kid is a classic example of young man developing in the UConn system.
 
I hope and expect it took this long to announce because Ollie and DeAndre were gathering information on his draft status. An announcement at this point is a good sign that they have done their work and are confident DeAndre is going to get taken in the first round.

I would not be shocked for the Thunder or Spurs or Bulls to take a second round flyer on Giffey and put him in the D league to see if he can improve his handle.
 
Deandre was just entered at 26 above Napier on draft express now on both major sites in the first round--they must know something perhaps a promise.
 
Congrats DeAndre! Can't wait to see you kick some ass in the Association.

He's announcing next week and I'll be glad so that we no longer have posters keep mentioning a guy whose family has stated that he is not leaving Texas or the Big12 area
