I was told once that as long as Plank refuses to write the buyout check Edsall will be at MD...and that he likes Edsall a LOT. If they wait to fire him till his buyout goes down they can easily fund that without his help. If Edsall is fired..I am assuming UMD got Plank's blessing...OR the money train will be shut off.I could be wrong but from what I've heard Plank really likes Edsall. Outside of coaching, I would suspect many like him. He's done a nice job cleaninig up the academic mess Fridge and the previous Admin left Maryland football with. That said, attendance has fallen off even thougth season ticket sales were solid. No buzz to the program right now. AND Maryland is committed to launching the rebranding/renovation of Cole Field House. The NuCole. 155 million dollar project. Plank put in 25 million. The other 125 million is from private donations, corp funding, etc. Combination of new indoor facilities, new brain trauma research and entrepreanuer school. Ground breaking is December. For these reasons, many believe the deal has already happened, just timing now. Michigan is going to spank us this week, OSU next week and then a buy before PSU in Baltimore. 2.6 million is the buyout. See the link below, Maryland is committed to football, now we need a HC to get us there.

In response to the thing about the other donors...as an outsider who has a brother who is a MD alum and talks about Terps sports...Kevin Plank has basically financed that athletic dept for the last few years, writing checks to cover losses like water going down the drain(and that doesn't include letting Anderson use his private jet when ever he needs it). It would be almost comical to see him ask these "other donors" where they have been when times were tough...yet now won't open up until a football coach is gone.Could be right, but I think many things have changed. 1) he got a 3 year ext. in ext, he gets 1 year pay + 500k for 2.6 million or only 500k if he makes it past next season. 2) i'm hearing the 155 has many more donors than just plank and some are sitting on the sidelines until Edsall is done. Remember, the 155 million is coming from other areas, just not KP. 3) Hoops is hot, thus I believe the cash flow is feeling better than originally expected.
Right where they are right now just a couple more wins per season. No Arkheel, no Cochran, just battling to be above .500. Which is why I think the ceiling is much higher with Diaco than it ever would be with Edsall. Recruiting is up, strength & conditioning...up, coach - media interaction seems better. I believe in a couple more years we'll be thanking our lucky stars that Maryland took Edsall off our hands.
The roof was starting to cave in before RE left due to Hathaway running a dysfunctional athletic department. RE, of all people, complained about not being able to get recruits cleared academically. He knew the Fiesta Bowl was going to be his high point, so he got out when the getting was good. If Hogan and Hathaway had been replaced before that point, then things might have been different. But if he had stayed, I think he still would have needed to bring in some assistants to make his staff more competitive on the recruiting trail. Can't help but wonder how things would have played out for us in CR if he had stuck around for a couple more years. The roof caved in on us at the worst possible time.
Cheer up del, at least the game at MSG will be fun
