Your boy Edsall will see his last days as a Maryland coach no later than post OSU. (2 weeks). This assumes he does not get blasted by Michigan Saturday night and the higher ups act faster. Personally, I like RE and think he really does care about his players. He's done a nice job of getting our APR in order and the kids graduating. Unfortunately, he rubbed most fans wrong from day 1, followed a very respected coach in Fridge and simply refuses to ever talk outside the box. I think if I hear he's a fine young man and he simply needs to improve his technique, I may very well write the check.

Hope UConn is doing well and/or at least moving in the right direction. Not been on this board for a few years so lost track of your progress. Many on here were great to interact with during our games.

Edsall was good for UCONN and then left us at the altar.
It's too bad for Maryland that it didn't work out like it should have.
You are in a better place and we will see you there soon.

Thanks for the update though.
It would be interesting on where we could be right now if we didn't get dumped.

Right where they are right now just a couple more wins per season. No Arkheel, no Cochran, just battling to be above .500. Which is why I think the ceiling is much higher with Diaco than it ever would be with Edsall. Recruiting is up, strength & conditioning...up, coach - media interaction seems better. I believe in a couple more years we'll be thanking our lucky stars that Maryland took Edsall off our hands.

As ye sow, so shall ye reap. Left UConn high & dry immediately after taking the program to its pinnacle for $$$. Justified it in the media by saying it was also to be closer to family ties in Penn.
Randy & Maryland weren't a good fit from Day 1, he just read the tea leaves wrong. Edsall's track history was taking a 1-AA program & building it into FBS caliber specifications, not replacing a successful coach that management was unhappy with. At UConn, he was deified for his on-field build up. With the Terps, he was doomed to always be looking over his shoulder at the spectre of the Fridge.
The best that can be expected in the coaching business is for an institution to honor a 5 year commitment to allow the coach to institute his
philosophy. FHCRE has had ample opportunity for success, & been found wanting. Maryland had aspirations of National Championship caliber teams. Randy is not capable of delivering that result. It's not in his DNA.

He's in over his head in the Big Ten, but that's going to be a tough place to win going forward.

Don'r get BY anger over him leaving. He wanted out because of the same guy we all hate. Hathaway.

Welcome back, delterp. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that you guys don't follow in our footsteps and replace Edsall with Pasqualoni. Thankfully, there is only 1 AD dumb enough to do that.

His tenure there has been entirely predictable. I compared him to coaches like Glen Mason, and Al Groh. Solid types, 7-8 win ceilings with the occasional challenge to 10 IF everything breaks right.

He could have stayed here as long as Calhoun did with his results. Kudos to him for challenging himself and daring to be great.

I don't know if Diaco will win enough, but I prefer him as the face of the program than a guy that would go on national tv and talk about our short comings.

He will make a very good MAC coach.

While RE did some very good things here (anyone who doesn't believe this needs to look at how many schools tried and failed, repeatedly over the past four decades to become something substantial in football) but there are a couple of things Diaco sees that RE never had the vision to see:

1 - This place can be a destination*. Diaco spoke almost immediately at his introductory presser about the atmosphere at the Rent when he was Virginia's DC. RE always saw this as a program that didn't have the support that many major schools did have (he didn't realize that it needed to be built but that it could be built here) and that limited what he was able to do here.

2 - The program needs to be sold throughout the state and also throughout the conference and FBS football. Diaco has taken the lead in reaching out to all corners of Ct to push the program. He also made a serious effort at attempting to build a rivalry with what has been clearly the strongest program in the conference over its first two years. These are things RE never would have considered.

RE basically set an artificial limit to how high we could rise.

* The jury is still out as to whether Diaco was sincere and does plan on remaining at this potential destination job and build it into just that (as Jim Calhoun did) or if he is merely being a salesman who would jump at what on the surface would appear to be a better offer once that materializes.

If Edsall does go and there is talk in Maryland about replacing him with a proven, seasoned coaching vet with college and NFL who currently is a coach with the Texans and his name is Paul, lock the doors, get a gun, and shoot first

I am just keeping my fingers crossed that the Maryland high school football coaches don't just LOVE Pasqualoni and highly endorse his hiring. They're doomed if they do.

Edsall did a very good job of building a program literally from trailers. He could find guys that nobody wanted and coach them up. But his shortcoming I think was he never progressed from that world view. Maryland needed some things that he could deliver I think. He cleaned up a mess Frigen left in terms of discipline and academics. Edsall will wind a bunch of games most years but not titles. He would actually be a good fix for Rutgers right now. He'd clean the place up and restore some respect and win 6-7 games a year. If Md gives him he boot and I were the Ruts I'd give him a call.

Remember in Ghostbusters 2, when there's a whole river of evil paranormal slime created by the negative attitudes of New Yorkers? I think Randy at Rutgers would arouse so many negative emotions on the Boneyard that a river of pink slime would flow from Storrs all the way to Piscataway. Either that, or the internet would break.

From what I have heard, one of the reasons Edsall left was because of UConn's incompetent AD in Hathaway. Rutgers's AD Hermann is as bad if not worse that Hathaway and he would also have to deal with a university president who has no clue nor interest managing D1 Athletics. Until those leadership roles at Rutgers are fixed, only a fool would coach there.

Bascially we're getting the payback for having to deal w/ the 3 years of losing under PP and GDL... Randy may have left us high and dry, and then PP drove this train completly off the tracks and into the Grand Canyon, but boy... am I glad for BOB DIACO.

Dude's the man. So glad we chose him and that he came here. I agree that the ceiling is wayyyy higher under Diaco at the helm than I think it ever was with Edsall (especially if he were still here). Even IF he stayed after the Fiesta Bowl, he was always looking for his next job and to get out of CT. Never ever did I feel like he was "our" guy or really embraced us fans. He rubbed fans and many in the University the wrong way for years, and I'm glad things have turned out the way they did. Diaco loves UConn, loves us fans and the energy we bring, and he loves these kids and what WE can all build here at UConn.

Good luck Maryland... maybe your Bob Diaco is in your future too.

Randy has a way of doing things. It is successful. He has had the same problem at UMD that he had here. QB play. It is his achilles heal. I hope he gets time to make it happen at Maryland. If not, I hope he goes back to the NFL .

He's received a verbal from Dwayne Haskins, ranked as #2 QB in the class. Pretty sure he will never get the chance to coach him unless a miracle happens. The loss to WVU in ass kicking sealed his coffin. Unlike Diaco, fans have no love for Edsall.

Who is this FHCRE that you are talking about?
HistoryMAJOR....... I liked your comment...saw your name and comment and you cracked me up.. LOL ... did you skip class that day ... that was good.... it's all in the past. I like the championship track HCBD has us on and FHCRE could never get us over the hump.....

As long as Plank likes him that's all that counts.
I don't think so. What has attendance been like? I don't know what it is, but if fans ain't showing even Plank won't save him.

I worked with a huge Maryland fan today and he brought up Edsall because he knows I'm a UConn alum. He thinks Edsall could be gone as soon as this week. He said most Terp fans would like to set him on fire.

I said that Maryland was Edsall's dream job. The guy responded, "Yeah, and it's our nightmare."

.-.
I could be wrong but from what I've heard Plank really likes Edsall. Outside of coaching, I would suspect many like him. He's done a nice job cleaninig up the academic mess Fridge and the previous Admin left Maryland football with. That said, attendance has fallen off even thougth season ticket sales were solid. No buzz to the program right now. AND Maryland is committed to launching the rebranding/renovation of Cole Field House. The NuCole. 155 million dollar project. Plank put in 25 million. The other 125 million is from private donations, corp funding, etc. Combination of new indoor facilities, new brain trauma research and entrepreanuer school. Ground breaking is December. For these reasons, many believe the deal has already happened, just timing now. Michigan is going to spank us this week, OSU next week and then a buy before PSU in Baltimore. 2.6 million is the buyout. See the link below, Maryland is committed to football, now we need a HC to get us there.
