David Pindell

So there's a good chance this may have been discussed but, after mumbling it to friends a few times and then seeing the run at Syracuse, Pindell is by far the fastest player on the team and is electric with the ball in his hands. Do you guys think it's possible if we lose the next two games that Edsall/Dunn move him to a scat back or slot receiver and slide MW or Krajewski in under center? To me it makes sense to get the next QB ready and possibly even maximize Pindell's speed and maybe even get him a NFL practice squad tryout (assuming he has decent hands).

Hmmm... Can you possibly back-up your "Pindell is by far the fastest player on the team" with any facts?

If we go 1-7 it would make absolutely no sense not to play MW and SK (especially since Krajewski can play in four games and keep his red shirt status). It was good that MW played the 4th quarter but after the first series it was obvious that more reps are needed to get acclimated to this speed. If these freshmen go into next season with no game experience we will be shooting ourselves in the foot.

I don’t know what the answer is but a suggestion is let Pindell start the last four games and, depending on the score of the game, let Washington and Krajewski split reps in the 3rd and 4th quarter. Maybe Pindell can go to wide out and use his speed for some deep balls. Any other ideas?

This seems reasonable

With the exception of maybe Dixon, that run at Syracuse is the glaring proof.

Because Pindell is the glue that is holding this team together. The change would be a train wreck of Diacian proportions.
I gave you a like for coining "Diacian proportions." That should become a common idiom around here.

No. Not a chance. Being the fastest guy proves he is the fastest guy not that he can catch, or run routes or any of the stuff a wideout needs to do. As far as running back Mensah is fine. Scott might be ok.

Starts are earned not given, these qbs can learn from Pindell, how he does in practice and on game day, they are around him every day.

This is ridiculous. We have 2 maybe 3 things going for us so let’s take one of those and trash it. Good plan

IMO, the better Q is - after 4 games which if any true frosh do u sit the rest of the year.
Nobody said to “trash it” but if the score is 45-7 in any of the last four games what is the purpose of sitting the freshmen? Let them get some true game experience to better prepare them for next year. Pindell is a great athlete that will graduate. We need to prepare for our future. Like Coach Edsall said, “It is what it is.”

Yep, we leave Dave in and give ourselves a shot at winning these games.

Agree, starts are earned but when the game is out of hand split some reps after the half. A good example was last season’s Memphis game we were down by almost 50 points. What was the sense of keeping BS in the game? Had Pindell gotten some snaps it might have better prepared him for the last three games he started.

I think Pindell was firmly in the dog house at that point last season.

If the score is 45-7 in any of the last four games should sit out HCRE2.0 and see if any of the other coaches can do better.

Don't you have an extra blocker if you keep him at QB and have him run it.

The one true statement we all can agree with ... that David Pindell run was one of the most impressive feats we have seen here at UConn or near our level. He is damn fast WITH another gear.

What the heck were we doing playing BS over him, just because he had a tough first game?

He wasn’t ready. Only had a month of camp under his belt. Even when he replaced an injured BS later in the season, he only showed glimpses of what is showing this year.

Kinda like many of our players this year. They only have been getting coached up for two months so far.

Yes holding us together to lose only by 30+/game. Whatever we need to do to score more as our only hope for a win is a shootout.

So taking out our dual threat quarterback who has gotten national and league recognition, leads us in both rushing and passing yards and rushing and passing touchdowns helps us how exactly? Putting in an untested QB who hasn't been taking first team reps improves our chance how? Really please let me know, I'm interested.

When the game is out of hand and there is no way to score four touchdowns in one quarter how is keeping him in the game going to help? Why take the chance of him getting injured? Who knows what the other three QB’s can do unless you give them a shot. What if Alabama or the Cleveland Browns prescribed to your theory. Bama would not be National Champs and Cleveland would still be winless.

Getting a back up quarterback some snaps in a blow out is different than moving our best player to a different position, as was originally suggested. The first is fine; the second is idiocy.

The coaching staff. Spring football and preseason camp is where you figure out your two deep, not games.

Agreed but also tells me that we should of found a way to get thast speed onto the field in other capacities prior to now! Seems like a waste IMO

The eye test on the field during game time is the only fact we should consider, and he has been "factual" in that sense based on what I've seen

Lets not start this .... BS gave us the best chance to compete like it or not. The fact remains that we sucked last year and one can still argue that position currently. Mixing up QB's would not of changed that

Dixon and Davis were both pretty good HS QBs.

I think the play set up to swing the ball to Davis going right to left in the backfield (which was fumbled by the QB) was meant for Davis to catch a lateral and have a throw option.

They ran a reverse for Dixon and he passed to Pindell against URI. I think they got about 10 yards but there was a penalty on the play. And now it’s on tape.

Notice that SU got snaps for their back up, so did Boise and UCF.

Pindell gives us the best chance to win right now. But Washington and the Polish kid should both be getting snaps especially after the outcome is determined.

Yes this is correct because all of those are the same as actual game action.

I am not advocating to move DP but this is a "what if" scenario on a message board which is perfectly acceptable. The OP asked if it is possible that HCRE would move DP to another skill position if we lost the next two games? It was not advocating that DP be moved.

You responded that it would be a disaster since DP was the glue holding the team together. I just pointed out that so far we haven't come close to a FCS win (and if we lose the next two as per the OC) then how tragic could it be? Can't do worse than 0 for 5.

At 1-5 I think it is possible that HCRE may want to see what the future holds at QB. I think that it would make sense to do so rather than try and win another game or two and enter next Spring without any idea how these guys perform in real game situations.
