Danny Manning choicing between Tulsa and Wake Forest

The old guard in the ACC hasn't figured out yet how the additions of Syracuse, Pitt, ND, and Louisville has impacted their beloved basketball programs. This isn't like when the ACC added BC, VT, and Miami. ACC schools that used to be able to compete to be the 3rd or 4th best school in the ACC (upper tier) are now going to fight to be the 7th or 8th best school in the ACC (mid tier). BC hasn't figured out what has happened in the ACC and they don't realize that they have gone from a possible middle of the pack ACC program to a bottom tier ACC program.

We saw this happen in the Big East when the Big East added Louisville, Marquette, Cincinnati, and ND over the years as St. John's, Providence, and Seton Hall were pushed down the pecking order.

Wake Forest is now a dead end job for a basketball coach

It may be a dead end job, but he's at Tulsa.

Would be crazy for him not to take this.

Only if you think it's the best offer he's likely to get in coming years.

Feel bad for Tulsa, they've lost so many good coaches over the years

Does he have a better chance of winning at Tulsa or Wake?
Losing is certain career death in his field.
I would suspect the Big 12 would be his ultimate destination.
He has to ask himself if the additional money now is worth sacrificing his ultimate goal.

Previous Tulsa coaches have moved on to much better jobs than the current Wake Forest job:

Nolan Richardson - -> Arkansas
Tubby Smith - - > Georgia
Steve Robinson - - > Florida St.
Bill Self - - > Illinois
Buzz Peterson - - > Tennessee

By the way, that is a pretty impressive list of coaches as three of them have won NCAA titles!

As for historical performance, Tulsa and Wake Forest are similar programs over the past 30 years:

NCAAs: Wake Forest 15, Tulsa 13
Sweet 16s: Wake Forest 5, Tulsa 3
Elite 8s: Wake Forest 3, Tulsa 1

I would tell him to stay at Tulsa until a better job surfaces.

This is exactly right and why BC will never get UConn on board to join the ACC. BC is the bottom with only the slightest chance of ever resurfacing. Just look at other programs like Georgia Tech! Six/seven years ago they had an excellent football and basketball program. They've been irrelevant for a few years now.
