The problem is that all the extra money will go to the football team to try to not embarrass itself in a big 4 conference. To anybody who doesn't understand why we need to leave the Big East (if we receive a power conference offer) this is why. The status quo is not sustainable from a financial standpoint. Sooner or later, it will become very difficult for us to compete for the top players- and coaches- when we can't afford to pay them due to the small TV contract the Big East has.
99% of anyone with half a brain and not stuck in their ways would take a ticket out of the Big Least as fast as you can say ACC. Our guy Nelson would go to his grave talking about how much potential Depaul has, and how the SEC is overrated annually. This has been my concern for awhile - as the budgets become more inequitable, Hurley will get to a point where he knows he can't compete. As soon as that happens, he's not sticking around. Dusty winning it this year with 5 transfers was proof enough that you can put together monsters in the portal with $$. As is, if Danny wins one more anytime soon, I think he's going to get close to checking off the boxes at this level and knowing it's not sustainable long term.Even worse, this could eventually push him to the NBA. I can see more and more coaches deciding they don’t wanna play the NIL game and going to the NFL/NBA
I absolutely hate that it has turned into this. The NCAA needs to set salary caps ASAP.To anybody who doesn't understand why we need to leave the Big East (if we receive a power conference offer) this is why. There are so many schools in power conferences that don't contribute anything. Hell, Kansas State and Virginia Tech don't even have a single national championship in any team sport...we have 25. It's an absolute joke that we're not in a power conference.I’m still baffled that Rutgers is in the B1G saying they are the NY market. Rutger Sports hasn’t contributed anything!!!
They contributed the NYC area cable boxes for the Big 10 Network.I’m still baffled that Rutgers is in the B1G saying they are the NY market. Rutger Sports hasn’t contributed anything!!!
I'd agree with most of that, but it's Caitlin Clark and everyone else, for now. She is far ahead in fame.Braylon Mullins is the most well known player in CBB (if he returns) and Dan Hurley is the most famous coach. We have one of only two women's coaches anybody knows and the most famous women's player every year. This is a huge advantage, and winning it all next year (M&W) could be a real money maker. We have a good shot at that, and I love that Dan is in love with this school. Businesses would be silly to not to take advantage of this

I agree we need to leave the Big East but as the first poster mentioned it is because of money not the quality of the league99% of anyone with half a brain and not stuck in their ways would take a ticket out of the Big Least as fast as you can say ACC. Yeah, like the horror show in LA where he was invited?Even worse, this could eventually push him to the NBA. I can see more and more coaches deciding they don’t wanna play the NIL game and going to the NFL/NBA
This is my exact feel. There is and will be a fatigue with businesses being asked for the money plus coffers are not unlimited especially considering the amounts involved each year. Folks tend to concentrate on today and this coming season. Even billionaires do not have millions every years to be thrown around. It’s not just a problem for non-P4 teams like UConn. There is an “arms race” in college sports that requires an ever increasing amount of money to sustain that which is unsustainable. Billionaire Mark Cuban effectively purchased a national championship in football for Indiana, his alma mater, a school with more losses all time than any other D-1 school in history. At the University of GA, a school who’s sports donor budget exceeded $300 million over the past 4 years, there is a growing sense of fatigue as donors are continually being asked to increase their donations so the University can compete for national championships.
While I don’t much like the idea that government should solve the problems of college sports competition, with the colleges themselves unable to deal with the issue, legislation by the federal government may be the only way to bring some measure of stability to a situation that’s completely out of control.
Even billionaires do not have millions every years to be thrown around.
Sure they do. But you're right, there will be an overall NIL fatigue sooner rather than later. And UConn doesn't have any billionaire boosters.
if you have a billion dollars, you're making 60 million a year just on the market. Of course you can't yolo that all and stay solvent, and there are plenty of other expenses...but a couple million a year is reasonably sustainable for someone who wanted to.
yeah 100% staying out of politics, but a better transfer rule does help this a bit. since there SUCH a high risk of throwing good money at a player who doesn't pan out and its harder to transfer.....there ends up being a much better way to take advantage of good scouting. Pretty much you can't play money ball if as soon as everyone realizes a player is good he can just leave. The biggest problem billionaires have is staying billionaires. Their ego won't allow them to drop ain the rankings. They'll throw $20 or $30 million at their favorite team every year.
But they'll pull back their donations without a championship at least every three or four years in basketball, and improvement every year in football.

of the 15 million donation not 1 single dollar is going to NIL! It’s in place to help the university replace our coaches when they leaveDidn’t we have one of the higher total spend and estimated nil spend last year? Didnt skinner just donate 15 mil? Didnt our entire starting five get paid for a national commercial played 100 times? Wouldn’t we end up getting about the same in a p4 because more would have to go to football? None of this NIL stuff makes any sense at all
