Dan Hurley on Allen Fieldhouse chants: "We’re all gladiators.”

I feel differently. The students are trying to create a hostile atmosphere and get under the opponents skin. I see it as them just having fun being kids. Classless are the drunks in the stands with all that comes with that. I remember Pitt fans chanting, what was it “doughboy” ? to Kalid, but then who was it standing on the scorers table with the last laugh? All good fun in the heat of battle.
Story goes it was much worse than “doughboy” they were yelling at him..

Hey B12

That Kansas/UConn match up that has produced excellent games that past two years. That could be every year. Look at the environment last night, students camping out last year (did they this year?) Storrs will be very similar.

These schools are practically born to be rivals on the court.

(and personally I'm thrilled to refer to Kansas as UConns contemporaries and equals)

Wait, the big 12 presidents read The Boneyard?

Who knew?

Being sort of a p….. myself, I know how hard it must be for him to hold back and let it bounce off. On the other hand, I loved hearing the chant and knowing it was all just in fun and part of the college atmosphere. I actually thought the crowd were more subdued than the last time we played there even when they had us on the ropes in the first half. I expected far worse from them and so proud of our young guys Reibe and Mullins for holding up so well in that environment.
Self wasn't a fan of it.

While Hurley was unbothered by the explicit chants, Kansas coach Bill Self used his postgame media availability to express his displeasure with members of the Jayhawk fanbase. “I said verbally to knock it off," Self said about the chants. "You don’t do that.”

This printed on boxer shorts is gold.

I mentioned in the chat also but the ESPN camera followed him all the way across the court walking toward the tunnel at halftime. Almost seemed like they were waiting for him to start jawing with fans and blow it up into a big story. I’m sure he wanted to but glad he didn’t especially bc I don’t think he will ever be able to top “two rings baldy!”.

By all means, let them spend their energy trying to rattle the guy who isn't going to take a single free throw or execute a single play.

I don't care what any fanbase says, just win baby, that's all that matters

At least your example for Kalid is more than 0% creative. Just shouting “F (whoever)” is just straight anger and vitriol. That’s now how you “get under the opponents (sic) skin”. Even shouting “no means no” at Terrance Shannon is better than just yelling expletives. What’s “fun” about just yelling out what they yelled out? Like make balding jokes or something. Anything.

The Pitt fans were yelling much worse than "doughboy" at El-Amin. They were yelling bigoted Muslim slurs at him according to El-Amin. Calhoun knew it, too, which is why he let Khalid stand on the scorers table and give it back to the Pitt fans after he hit the game winning shot.

Yep screaming at a player that he's a rapist when they didn't rape anyone is so fun and creative. Hurley would totally freak if they called him bald, that's super creative and would really get under his skin.

That is a great quote. Personally I think the chant is classless, regardless of the target. Any AD who allows it to continue is equally as classless.
and what can an A.D realistically do to stop it?
