Dan Hurley has officially signed a six-year, $50 million dollar contract extension.

idk why he's so insistent on a low buyout. it's not like teams will be deterred by even a 10m buyout with the finances of (non-lakers) teams.

That buyout money that a team pays could still be money that goes to him in his contract. It’s not just extra. The buyout number is almost certainly not going to determine whether he stays or goes in the future but it still makes sense for him to want it low

I understand that but it trades at some ratio greater than 1 in terms of benefit to old team / cost to his next contract. if UConn has the security of a larger buyout then they should be willing to pay him more currently. it's the whole NPV thing.

As long as there is a buyout large enough to keep current players/recruits in the year he leaves, it's a great deal.

On the cheap wow. I have never trusted a coach of my team as much since bill parcels as giants fan. He’s worth twice as much of contract. I don’t remember if I have ever been happier with program. Our team is minimum ten deep with guys trying to prove themselves. This happened quick.

He's in a position to bargain for maximum flexibility, so why not?

Here are the buyouts for people that haven't seen

We are the monster guys. You know you love it. Alabama and Kansas are only issues for three peat. Maybe Houston and NC. Big east always fails out of conference. Villanova will have everyone hurt in preseason. Lose to everyone.

Nice to see these line up perfectly with the new 6 year deal:

No $ but length of contracts:

Updated w/ numbers:

-> UConn assistant coaches Kimani Young, Luke Murray and Tom Moore – who Hurley refers to as the best staff in the nation – have also agreed to new contracts, a UConn source confirmed. Young and Murray will receive $400,000 per year base salaries, with Moore earning $375,000.

Young and Murray will also receive supplemental salaries for speaking, consulting and media, ranging from $300,000 to $450,000 annually over the next three years. The two can also earn $50,000 in retention bonuses each of the next three years and up to $50,000 in performance bonuses, plus up to $100,000 in postseason bonuses. Moore, who signed a one-year deal, is also eligible for up to $50,000 in postseason bonuses. <-

Tom Moore is doing a gm kind of role, but idk what the length of his deal means. this is a new role in college sports and the eval standards are evolving. I dont think he wants to leave.

Just heard the news on WEEI while flipping through stations, Zolak just called Hurley a fraud, haha what a toolbag. Said now they’re gonna have to cut the swimming team, didn’t know he cared so much about UConn.
Remember why Zolak is famous in the first place. Because he won two football games in an 2-14 season, as a fourth-string QB, which almost cost the Patriots the right to draft Drew Bledsoe.

He'll be 60 next year, I imagine he just wants to go year to year and see how he feels. At some point the grind of recruiting will be too much and he'll be ready to retire

I think it's a good deal for UConn. Hurley could've pushed for more, but got enough to be happy.

One of the (many) reasons I liked Roy Williams far more than Coach K is that Williams was paid well but always left money on the table. K was always by far the highest paid coach.

Roy also quietly retired with zero fanfare. I was never much of a fan of his when he coached but I've come to really like and respect the guy.

Thought this was interesting.

The maximum discretionary assistant/associate head coach bonuses included in Hurley’s contract remains at $500,000, and Hurley is not eligible to receive any portion of these bonuses.

Is that a way for Hurley to keep the coaches incentivized to work hard? He has $500,000 to hand out as he sees fit.

Five things to note in new contracts for Dan Hurley, UConn men’s basketball assistant coaches

Who is Zolak and why should we care what he thinks..i.e. Rob Parker saying UCONN is not a BlueBlood......Haters gonna hate.
I don’t know who he is, but it would not surprise me if he was a fan of…hmmmm…let’s see…start with Kentucky, but maybe Kansas, or who knows could be Duke my money is on one of the big programs and he is not happy with our evolving dynasty.

So let’s take a shot at Hurley as you say haters gonna hate… sometimes they have a reason they do not want to make public:)
