He just basically admitted some of our players will be playing for different schools next season and they know where they're going and for how much.
Wowwa! He did not say that. He said that about 50% may have been contacted and may know if they are going or what kind of NIL money they will be getting. NIL causes re-recruiting your players if they want them back.

.-.
I firmly believe Danny if he could make a deal upstairs would give one of his kidneys for a 3rd banner.

I heard it but find it hard to believe. Could see a couple maybe.
I have no idea how many will actually leave, but trust me on this….the moment any program or specific player hits a bump in season, someone close to said player(handler, parent, aau coach) is receiving calls w names of schools and nil amount that is available elsewhere. No need to speculate but I can guarantee that there are kids everywhere, including UConn, that have a list of schools and nil value in hand, and many kids already have a foot out the door. It’s the new March madness.

That’s the thing. People are gonna take Hurley’s comment as a negative. But if you’re getting 3 McDonald’s All-Americans plus hitting the portal hard of course this is part of the process.
Yup - this is today’s reality. Retention is one of the hardest parts. It’s the kids that aren’t good enough that require instant gratification that must be avoided, as they turn into a season long distraction. And it’s only going to get worse. This is why 611s dream of long term development is ridiculous in today’s world.

Part of the challenge for Hurley must be how to get productive minutes from guys already checked out.

I have my hunches with this group, as you can see it in body language already.

Wild to hear the 50% so candidly.
Honestly. I think of current roster, we have a solo kid who is 100% certainty that’s staying. i Don’t think people on here understand the amt of money some schools throw at kids and I am very concerned at the poaching potential.

that’s the challenge everywhere. For Danny, this was the first time it was this pronounced. Danny struggled with that as did our on court performance. Kids seem to all be playing more freely now, I wondered what changed? sometimes it’s just clarity.

50% of the returning roster considering leaving is probably true for every program. Be glad it is not 100%.

To date have we lost anyone who really ended up hurting us? I'll answer my own question, no not yet.

Imagine how bad Rutgers felt losing Spencer.

Never, not even going back to the Calhoun years

Having great coaches helps.

Kids are going to be unhappy with playing time. It is what it is

100% is - for the large majority of these kids that have no future monetizing professionally they ate obligated to squeeze every ounce of their collegiate opportunity.

Entering the portal doesn’t necesarily mean you leave. You can withdraw. Right?

Almost seems crazy that 100% don‘t enter. Seems like its a way to explore your options and determine your value is on the open market. If your school wants you back, and another school will pay more, you use that for a raise.

Isn’t that exactly what Hurley did when he was speaking with the Lakers?

Most times, you enter the portal when you know you are leaving. You don’t have to enter to know your options. That’s the point, these kids already know that.
