Basketball is a team sport and developing a championship caliber team means finding a mix that play as a team. This invariably means finding players who can complement marquee players and vice versa.

Obviously, Dallas hasn’t found (and Arike hasn’t helped with developing) any great mix. With all those players — many of them high draft picks — and Dallas with Arike as its marquee player couldn’t make it work. Teams have done more with less — just look at the Lynx.

Geno has impressed his player-leaders the notion that anything that happens with their team is their fault. And great player-leaders assume that responsibility.
