D3 Tournament

One my sons graduated from Whitewater. He was not an athlete but my impression of the school was that is the jockiest D3 school in the country.
I think Wisconsin D3 schools are higher level sports schools because we only have 1 D2 school and they're wholly irrelevant in athletics. It's been fun the last 20+ years seeing the WIAC schools win a bunch of football nattys with Whitewater and I believe half of the league schools win basketball nattys too.

I went to a D3 school in the Little East conference, they were also called the Huskies, too, lol, but I don't think they were ever very good. 16-10 this year.

Flashback to Butler beating Pitt in Washington in the 2d round in 2011, right before Kemba and UConn handled Cincy.
Completely forgot about that finish. Matt Howard with the game winning free throw with less than a second left. Similar vibe.

.-.
Fun to see a bunch of Boneyarders with D3 alma maters.

After being a 4-year player at Bucknell, Jay Wright got his first coaching job as an assistant at the University of Rochester, in 1984. It was the same year Dennis O'Brien left the presidency of Bucknell for the same role at Rochester. Two years later, O'Brien's idea for a D3 conference comprised of academically elite, high-endowment medium-size universities was launched.

UChicago, Emory, NYU, and Washington U. in St. Louis (half the conference) all won their first round games in the D3 tourney.

#1 Trinity largely sucked today, though they were missing their second best player. Went 10 minutes without a field goal in the second half. Against (theoretically) the 64th seeded team in the tournament. But they scraped by and now face Babson (who they beat by 20+ in the regular season) tomorrow night at 7pm in the round of 32.

Wesleyan also looked pretty mediocre, barely getting past Lehman who Trinity beat by 60 to start the year. They face NYU (last year's national runner up) at 6:15pm.

WestConn unfortunately lost a close one to Catholic, who moves on to face Tufts
