Jay Wright isn’t wrong here. I’ve gotten way too deep into D3 basketball since Covid, and I have to say, it is really fantastic to watch. Obviously, not as athletic. They play above the rim, but not nearly as much as D1. Shooting is stellar. For those of you who are basketball junkies, I suggest watching some games. Tournament begins Friday. Area schools who are in… Trinity, Wesleyan, WestConn, Yeshiva, Lehman, Tufts, Babson, NYU, Amherst, Worcester State.

I love the idea of having it be the Sunday of F4 weekend at the F4 host city. They do this with lacrosse and it's a really fun day, I'm sure other sports as well. They could've scheduled this a bit better though, a 15 day gap between the D3 F4 game and championship is a bit much. 9 days for D2, too.

I never had that in hoop but we had a D3 hockey player on our adult hockey team. Great skills who set up teammates like me until they bumped him up to a higher level.

Agreed. I went to a D3 elite 8 game a few years back and the level was super impressive. I hadn't gone to a D3 game since and went earlier this year because I started a new job down the road from a D3 program and that game was bad. It probably didn't help there were like 75 people in the gym for a 5:30 tip and the home team was 0-fer the league. Maybe I'll try again next season if they improve.
 
Didn't Trinity win the D3 championship last year? I think Wesleyan got to the Final Four also.

I've been following the D3 tournament for over 40 years. Different kind of basketball than D1 but still a lot of fun. I went to a D3 school that at the time held the D3 record for going to 12 straight NCAA Tournaments (someone broke that record recently). In my 4 years in college they got to the Final Four twice and lost in the championship game both times. I went out to Grand Rapids, MI to see the Final Four my senior year because I had a few friends on the team.

Then my kids went to a D3 school and the team was very good a few years and hosted the first 2 rounds of the NCAA Tournament once so they got into it. The kids on the team were all real "student" athletes and were very good students. One of the players was a D3 First Team All American and also was a great kid who won some award for being the school's most involved student on campus.
 
I live in Vermont and go to many Norwich games and really enjoy them. Know some of the players and they are all good guys and play for the love of the game. I was at the game when they played St Joseph’s and happened to run into Glen Miller after the game. Won’t go into detail about the conversation but he was really happy that I appreciated his efforts to make UConn basketball the great program it is. He loves Dan Hurley and of course the GOAT Jim Calhoun. When I told him I remembered he was #20 when he played he said I guess you are a real fan and got a good laugh.

I don't know about that. Grinnell is the #39 overall seed in the field.

even better was a teammate that was a former IVY player who averaged 14 his senior year 15 years before

Yeshiva is the team I really want to see in person. I just love how their recruiting pitch is literally finding the best basketball players amongst the million Modern Orthodox Jewish people in the world. Their gym is in just north of Washington Heights, so it's an easy drive from Norwalk.

Zevit Samet (6'2, 23.3p, 4.1r, 2.4a, 40.3 3P%) is better than A LOT of D1 guards.

Their stream is free at 1 PM today vs Bates.

In 2021 and 2022 the Lacrosse D1/D2/D3 Final 4 was held at the Rent.

Wesleyan lost 2 games total last year - to Trinity in the conference tournament final and to Trinity in the Final Four. Both came down to the final minute. Trinity won the national title.

Trinity lost @Wesleyan and @Tufts this year, but won the NESCAC tournament and maintained the #1 national overall seed so they will host through the Sweet 16 in Hartford so long as they don't lose. Wesleyan and Tufts are also hosting the first two rounds locally.

My hometown school is in the tourney. The Elmhurst University Bluejays. Lots of good D3 hoops in northern Illinois/southern Wisconsin.

Samet is a serious bucket. Yeshiva’s movement offense full of staggered screens, slip screens, ghost screens and backdoor cuts… is a thing beauty. YU had trouble in the non-con part of their schedule against NESCAC opponents. Hoping things go better vs Bates. I’ll be watching the game.

Yeah living in Wisconsin it's cool to see half the WIAC make the tournament this season. Seems like they've all regularly lost to each other throughout the season though so it's hard to know if any of them are good enough to make a run in the tournament since only 1 of the 4 schools gets to host.
 
My brother in law played for the US Coast Guard Academy in the mid 80s. They beat Trinity, who was #1 in New England at the time in a home game in New London. Those future officers really knew how to cheer on their classmates during those games. Fun times.

I hate that Wisconsin conference! lol. My school lost to Wisconsin-Whitewater in the championship game the first time they made the finals.

Samet has 21 of Yeshiva’s 39 points at halftime. Five threes, almost all off balance. Kid is ridiculous.

One my sons graduated from Whitewater. He was not an athlete but my impression of the school was that is the jockiest D3 school in the country.
