But we now know what our base is. And the crowd stuck around. The move to the exits didn't start, and even then not that much, until Omar made that 3-point play just after the 2 minute mark. The bad news, of course, is that the crowd didn't start moving to the exits until after the 2 minute mark against New Hampshire.

Guys, Hathaway was fired because of his ineptitude. The fan base needs to be rebuilt and I'm worried Manuel is not the right guy to do it.

agreed, there is nothing exciting, nothing new to entice people to stay or even show up to these games... it is a thursday in hartford and people are working... xl needs to go and just have the games at gampel

I just don't understand why u would play UNH at XL in the middle of the week I know money is involved but its gotta be deflating if your a player and u look up and the place looks empty and quiet at least with Gampel u have a lot more students

Since we found out that there would be no postseason this year, I've been posting that all games should be at Gampel. Attendance at the XL Center has been declining for years (I remember when it used to rock, not anymore) and at least by having the games at Gampel we would finally have a real home court advantage like Duke, Kansas, Kentucky etc. It would also make a better impression on recruits to have a packed on-campus Gampel than the morgue that is the XL Center. I can tell you if I was Kevin Ollie, I'd only let recruits attend games at Gampel.

Attendance has been going down in recent years due to the economy or whatever and I know it would get much worse this year with there being no post-season glory to play for. This does not make a good impression on other conferences seeking new members.

Bracket buster.

Here's the thing- the Big East won't be in the Bracket Buster because the league will still be a step above the mid-majors (while a step below the rest), similar to the A10 now.

While I agree games are better at Gampel, every game there makes it that much harder for fans to get to the game. I'm in a position where I have to leave an hour early just to make a Hartford game close to on time. Gampel is out of the question for week day games.

UConn athletics needs a reboot. I think playing all games at Gampel is a start. Maybe 1 or 2 marquee Saturday games at the XL.

Sadly we seem to have lost a lot of what had been built for the last 25 years. Not too long ago getting a ticket at the Civic Center was incredibly difficult. The athletic department (i.e. Hathaway) for the last decade took our success for granted and did absolutely nothing to build upon it.

That's just wonderful. The Atlantic 10.

How long ago? I mean maybe for the big games, but I never found it difficult to go to the HCC even right after 04.

you're right. i was referring to the 1990s. At the turn of the century getting tickets got a lot easier.

by 2004 it was easier to get tickets, the 1990s was a completely different thing though, especially 1995 through 2000ish.

It's odd, and hard to explain. I mean, its almost like our fan base just got used to winning. We've been getting these lighter crowds, especially during the cupcake season, but then we overwhelm MSG in the 2011 BET. That 2011 BET championship game was a total joke. There must have 1000 Louisville fans, and 18,000 Uconn fans.

The Rent has a bunch of empty seats at home, but then we send impressive crowds to Maryland, Notre Dame or Michigan. I was at that Michigan game, and the Uconn showing was great.

The "problem" with the Rent is that it's very easy to watch the game standing somewhere. I don't even know where my seats are. You've got to have at least 2000 people that are standing between the upper and lower level watching plus those at the concession stands or in the bathroom at any given time.

That Louisville game was the best game I've ever been to

I was at the game. Actual attendance was probably around 5,000. 6 people in my row never came back after halftime.

In either 1995 or 1996, I got a 3 game package at the Civic Center and it was 5 rows from the top and I was glad to have the tickets.

The entire city of Hartford is dead. The Civic Center is sorely outdated as a venue for anything. UConn's administration has done a horrific job of keeping it fresh and enticing people to want to go to Hartford to see a game. It's downright embarrassing to see a half filled arena on TV and the Civic Center relationship needs to end. Quickly.

I think another issue is that we don't have a player that people would play to see. Our best player is Shabazz "There is a First Half?" Napier. Contrasts from seeing manchild Drummond, Kemba doing his thing, watching Sticks throw down crazy dunks, Thabeet blocking 10 shots a game, Rudy, Emeka, Ben, etc. Those were all players people would pay to see, and we had some pretty damn good players supporting them as well.
