agreed, there is nothing exciting, nothing new to entice people to stay or even show up to these games... it is a thursday in hartford and people are working... xl needs to go and just have the games at gampelGuys, Hathaway was fired because of his ineptitude. The fan base needs to be rebuilt and I'm worried Manuel is not the right guy to do it.
I just don't understand why u would play UNH at XL in the middle of the week I know money is involved but its gotta be deflating if your a player and u look up and the place looks empty and quiet at least with Gampel u have a lot more students

Here's the thing- the Big East won't be in the Bracket Buster because the league will still be a step above the mid-majors (while a step below the rest), similar to the A10 now.
UConn athletics needs a reboot. I think playing all games at Gampel is a start. Maybe 1 or 2 marquee Saturday games at the XL.
Sadly we seem to have lost a lot of what had been built for the last 25 years. Not too long ago getting a ticket at the Civic Center was incredibly difficult. The athletic department (i.e. Hathaway) for the last decade took our success for granted and did absolutely nothing to build upon it.
How long ago? I mean maybe for the big games, but I never found it difficult to go to the HCC even right after 04.
you're right. i was referring to the 1990s. At the turn of the century getting tickets got a lot easier.
by 2004 it was easier to get tickets, the 1990s was a completely different thing though, especially 1995 through 2000ish.
It's odd, and hard to explain. I mean, its almost like our fan base just got used to winning. We've been getting these lighter crowds, especially during the cupcake season, but then we overwhelm MSG in the 2011 BET. That 2011 BET championship game was a total joke. There must have 1000 Louisville fans, and 18,000 Uconn fans.
The Rent has a bunch of empty seats at home, but then we send impressive crowds to Maryland, Notre Dame or Michigan. I was at that Michigan game, and the Uconn showing was great.

I was at the game. Actual attendance was probably around 5,000. 6 people in my row never came back after halftime. But we now know what our base is. And the crowd stuck around. The move to the exits didn't start, and even then not that much, until Omar made that 3-point play just after the 2 minute mark. The bad news, of course, is that the crowd didn't start moving to the exits until after the 2 minute mark against New Hampshire.

Yeah I got ya.While I agree games are better at Gampel, every game there makes it that much harder for fans to get to the game. I'm in a position where I have to leave an hour early just to make a Hartford game close to on time. Gampel is out of the question for week day games.
