Some thoughts on the Creighton game:
  • Creighton has a nice young team that’s really improved over the course of the season under HC Jim Flannery. But his young Bluejays were overwhelmed again for a 3rd time this season by the Huskies.
  • 5 minutes into the game you knew Creighton’s freshman pg was in deep trouble as KK picked her pocket twice and, by the way, you can’t leave KK unguarded at the arc anymore, and she attacks the basket as well as anyone. KK hit her first 8 shots today! 🤩
  • Sarah piles up more stats per minute than any player I’ve ever seen. There was one play in the 2nd qtr where she blocked a shot, caught it in mid-air, started the break and dropped a dime to Allie that took all of about 3-4 seconds. (1 block, 1 steal, 1 assist) 😮
  • UConn’s 1st half wasn’t quite perfect. But my goodness was it ever A BEAUTIFUL THING?
  • More on Sarah. Most players speed up when they’re about to do something on the court. But Sarah slows down, makes some kind of mental calculation and then deals something extraordinary out of her bag.
  • Azzi had an “un-Azzi like” shooting game yesterday going 4/14. But like all great shooters, she has no conscience. Today she was 6/10 including 3/4 from the arc.
  • Kayleigh was dropping some serious dimes today with 7 assists and only 1 turnover!
  • Here’s some impressive numbers from today’s game: UConn shot 57/64/75 as a team, with 27 assists and only 8 turnovers, while forcing 19 Creighton turnovers including 13 steals.
  • One final thought on Sarah. If someone else wins any NPOY award, other than Sarah, it’s absolute nonsense!
  • It feels really good for UConn to hit the century mark, I must confess. The 100 points UConn put up today was the most points ever scored by UConn in their BE tournament history. 😁

-When Sarah plays like she did in the first half, it is foolish to consider anybody else as NPOY.

-KK had a perfect first half and it was ALMOST overshadowed by Sarah’s play.

-K9 playing against second teamers in mop up time is unfair because she does not ever go any speed but full. What a game today.

-Geno’s trust in Allie is approaching the same level as Geno has in Ash.

-It was nice seeing Ash shake off yesterday’s doughnut.

-Two nitpicks that do not overshadow the clinic they put on. Serah foul trouble making her a non factor and Blanca’s inability to finish.

-I wonder how long Geno sticks with the goatee.

An epic beatdown. Creighton earned some respect by closing to within 50. They have a scrappy young team that could be formidable over the next few years.

Sarah was Awesome. And the usual suspects did the usual things. And KK had her best game of the year.

Really solid win. Aside from a few hiccoughs (Serah with 4 fouls and Blanca with an off shooting night), it was really a complete overwhelming performance. Team seems to be tightening things up. Really impressive!

KK - who knew she had SO MUCH offense? LOL. Loved seeing her be aggressive. Sarah was awesome too. NPOY by a country mile. Loved seeing Carol and Ayanna score too. Keep it going, ladies!!

UConn is playing at a very high level right now. Theres no let up. Everybody is contributing giving us more options to score and thats 9 deep scoring. Their quickness speed intensity energy and confidence are at an all-time high. When the NCAAs start opponents have no idea what theyre in for. Playing UConn is an experience that you can replicate in practice. You see it, you understand it but you cant experience it until you play UConn.

It was said (by Bum Phillips) of Don Shula that he could take his team and beat you and take your team and beat his. The point, I guess, was that the coach is the difference between winning and losing. As I watched today's game, I wondered if Geno was coaching Creighton would the Bluejays be more successful. My impression has been that the players for the most part in the BE aren't top of the line (with some exceptions). That UConn has the better players. You know the old argument that Geno wins because he gets the best talent. Those of us who have watched the Huskies for decades know that isn't true. We've seen what Coach has done with very good and not so good teams; his composite record speaks for itself. He's the best ever.
So, as a native Miamian, conversant in both Yiddish and Seminole, I was around during the Shula years. They were halcyon times, similar to the 4-year run orchestrated at UConn by the great Stewie. When Shula left, things were never as great again.

I was disappointed that Cool Hand Luke was off again today. When you put 10 away fans the likes of me want it all the time. Come Big Dance time I want her killing it. Yes, she does other things and put 8 on the board , and she was hardly needed today, but my motto is It is not enough to win, others must lose. It's just in my nature and I really love this kid.

Serah...6 minutes, 4 fouls. Then Jana comes in, 2 quick fouls on her. Hmm. Something stinks and not either player.
Refs were paying attention to their scouting report.
I could be wrong, but I think Creighton was in the Bonus before the media break in the first quarter. I know it happened one quarter for sure.
But UConn didn't mind, we just played like UConn and all that kept me (most of us?) wondering was 1. how many points and steals that Sarah would get and 2. when would we get to 100.
Loved Caroline's 3!!!

Sorry, but who's Cool Hand Luke?

I wonder if those quick fouls weren’t just because of the Serah & Jana’ “sheet,” but also because of the mayhem of yesterday’s MI v IA game when the refs failed to call contact early.

What I saw is Sarah got away with an obvious foul against Bofelli at one end and the refs tried to fix it with a makeup call on Serah at the other end. Fair enough. But it meant Serah was in a hole not of her own making right from the start. When she committed a real foul a few minutes later, she had to sit. That wasn’t her fault. It’s the cost of inconsistent whistles.

What an offensive and defensive display by UConn. I'm sure Geno will reinforce details as he did early in the game. But that is they way you strive for perfection.

Sarah is the NPOY. Just unreal how good she is.

KK is the masked marvel. She was all over the court.

K9 and Allie continue to impress.

Quick fouls on Serah and then Jana. I wonder.

Let's bring it to the finals tomorrow.

Blaming the refs for the 6 fouls that were fouls!? We obviously weren’t watching the same game

Very impressive overall game from UCONN. Sarah proved again that she is the National Player of the Year. Azzi showed again why she will be a Top 5 pick in the upcoming WNBA Draft. KK Arnold exhibited why she is the Top Point Guard in the Country, and Ashlynn, again put on another display of Excellence in 2 way production. All 4 had solid games. Off the bench we saw outstanding production from K9, Jana El Alfy and Allie. The only downside from today's game was that Bianca had one of her worst games at UCONN. And Serah's foul issues and overall non productive day, showed a few kinks in the UCONN armor. Thank goodness this team has players like K9, Allie, and notably Jana El Alfy to pick up the slack.

-Kayleigh’s 8 rebounds led the team
-Kayleigh’s 7 assists led the team
-Serah’s 4 fouls kept her off the court for most of the
game…too bad.

As coach Flanery noted: UConn has more talent than last year…he think’s they’re better (paraphrased)

The jury is out on that until stronger competition but he may well be correction both accounts.
When the #2 and mop-up point guard leads the team in important catagories you know their opponents are in trouble.

A very impressive win
