Some postgame thoughts on the Creighton game:
  • Jim Flanery is an excellent coach. His motion offense and switching defense force opponents to work hard. The Bluejays certainly made the Huskies work hard early, but they are in “rebuilding mode.” They don’t have the experience to hang with the Huskies all game.
  • UConn started today’s road game as if they were competing to see how many turnovers they could commit on offense. At the same time, defense travels. UConn went small early, put additional pressure on Creighton, turned them over 18 times in the 1st half and pulled away.
  • Blanca continues to be an enigma who probably drives Geno a little crazy. She is an absolute menace on defense. In 6 first half minutes she had 3 steals. 🤩 But she also had 3 turnovers. 🤯
  • When things get a little sloppy on offense, Geno probably has to resist the urge to simply get the ball to Sarah in the post every time and let her score. Fortunately, UConn’s offense looked a whole lot better in the 2nd qtr as Azzi, Ash and Kayleigh started to bury their shots from the arc.
  • Sarah with a stat-stuffing double-double: 18 points (7/10), 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals.......Yea, she's pretty good.
  • Rene continues to entertain. When she mimicked Mathew McConaughey’s “alright, alright, alright” from Dazed and Confused, she broke new ground in basketball commentary….😎
  • Am I the only one who gets nervous whenever Azzi shoots a FT, because…well…I won’t say it…….🤞
  • Back home on Thursday for a game against Villanova, the #2 team in the BE.

-Opponents have now had 17 games to study and figure out a way to handle the press. For most, it has been an epic fail. Today was no exception.

-Creighton had a decent 3 point percentage prior to today. As usual, UConn takes away what the opponent wants to do.

-Even though it isn’t happening for a while, UConn needs to play a quality opponent. They are getting away with periods of sloppy play because of their extreme talent advantage.

-Another game in which Azzi was at point for a few possessions. I wonder if she will play point in emergency situations during the tournament.

-I have felt that as soon as Caroline started making some shots, her minutes would increase. Maybe today was a start.

-The second quarter was one of those periods where you just watch in awe.

-I hope Villanova pushes them Thursday.

Zediker impressed me. Probably number two behind Blanca in the freshman of the year race.

I don’t know who played well for us today. Probably Sarah Strong. I feel like she is the player of the game for us.

Renee came up with a new moniker which was apparently suggested by her social media followers. When Sarah Strong made a great play (an and-1), Renee called it a "Sarah-mony".

Beware, we may have to get dressed up for future Sarah-monies at Gampel or People's Bank.

Before long, we may even see some Serah-monies. I wonder if those will require an invitation?

Very well played game with everyone scoring. Caroline was finally showing what she is capable of ( 6 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists) and I hope Geno gives her a shot. Total dominance in all categories. 17 and 0 and counting!!!!!!! GO HUSKIES!!!!!!

Zediker played at the same HS as Caitlin Clark. She was ranked #70 by HG. I think they had her far too low! Creighton will improve as they mature.

Credit to Jim Flannery and Creighton. Flannery had a great game. The team executed in the first quarter. A young team will a lot of freshman talent. Look forward to seeing this team grow.

Second quarter it was all UConn. Creighton had no chance.

Sarah, Azzi & Blanc hadghe game we expected. Shout out to Ash, KK, Serah and Caroline.

BTW - watched the Providence/ Villanova game that preceded the UConn game. Nova is good. Whether they are good enough remaijns to be seen.

OT:
I’m sure many Husky fans have noticed that both ND and UTenn had decent games today.

Should spice up the season a bit.
In a more immediate sense, Notre Dame and Villanova played very well today (& Notre Dame might have snuck back in to the top 25), so, given UCONN'S recent ball control issues, this could be a very interesting next 8 days. I know this game will give the coaching staff a lot of teachable moments on video.
Today's game showed just how dominant Sarah can be (I know, when isn't she).
Azzi was low-key Azzi.
Serah was Dr Jekyll and Ms Hyde.
K-9 was impressive: aggressive & efficient.
Aside from her rocky 1st couple of minutes, Blanca was great.
Caroline was mobile, physical and saw some shots drop.
Creighton was so much better than their previous game (Flanery has his youngsters moving in the right direction), and Zedicker is very impressive.

Agree on Zedimer

The end was trainwreckish. I wasn't thrilled with the offensive movement, but credit the opponents energy for a lot of that. Keeping things in perspective, this team is almost ridiculously deep.
True. Creighton ended the game with a 19-8 spurt.

I now see the final score as 95-54… did they take away a 3 pt from Creighton
