Totally agree, playing bothe Whalley and Sanogo at the same time against a team that can shoot is brutal. It forces Whalley to play on the perimeter.
He's proven he can take a team in the bottom up the AAC and take the to the top of the Big East. We're looking at a 5 seed at worst for the tournament, what else do you want from a guy in year 4? You expect a National Championship already? He's building the program back brick by brick, its not something that happens over night. Sounds like you're just super negative no matter how much good he does for the program.
Stop telling me what I know. I said i'd take UConn's roster but it's not the blowout you think it is and that Creighton has our # and that McDermott was the better coach right now. Newsflash, the most "talented" team whatever that means, isn't guaranteed to win. We lost a tough road game by 2. Didn't play a good 1st half and defense was lousy down the stretch. Some people seem to think losing to anyone other than a top 5 team should somehow never happen. Upsets and bad matchups are things that only happen to other teams, not us. Not acceptable cuz "talent." That's not how sports work. You and your preseason predictions again. They meant nothing and were inaccurate for Marquette, Creighton, and Providence but with UConn getting picked 2nd, we are suppoaed to hold up as some kind of evidence of roster talent. It was a preseason prediction based on projection. Means nothing now.
Sanogo played 37 minutes last night. That's about 5 too many. However I'm sure some of that was due to Hawkins being out and us having a shorter bench. I wouldn't have minded seeing 2 minutes of Akok at some point to see if he had something to give us. If he didnt, fine , stick with the shortened bench.

The negative nancies in the "next 6 games" thread were saying 3-3. Villanova was a guaranteed L.

well said August_West. There is one end of the spectrum where the crowd thinks the sky is falling as they expect this team to be great when in reality they are far from great, but good. On the other end of the spectrum there are posters suggesting without any doubt whatsoever(more implied than explicitly said) that UConn would've beaten Providence if Sanogo was healthy and playing and that they were definitely going to win yesterday at Creighton. While I do think UConn at home would be favored with a Sanogo in the line up, it is far from definitive that they would win against Providence and I thought yesterday's game was going to be a close UConn win.

I don’t think I said Creighton can’t beat us. I said they shouldn’t. And I could agree with that. I’m just naturally a positive guy. BUT to say the season is going to turn into a “disaster” and then be disappointed after we go 7-2 is comical
I mentioned this last night in one of the threads but I don’t get this logic. Kimani was on the bench long before the Nova game and has been there since that game. The assistant coaches clearly are vocal on the sidelines and there is constant conversation between them and Dan, as well as the players.
So when you watched him, what did he do well?
He’s the only pg they have. So losing him is still a big deal. I also think he was a 6x freshman of the week
Those awards are generally based on simple box score stats and underrate turnovers, shot efficiency, and foul drawing. Re-distributing the shots he was taking instead of someone else is a real benefit of him being out. He was shooting 26% from 3 in conference play but still taking close to 5 a game. He was drawing less fouls than Jalen Adams used to.
i have no way of knowing...what you say makes sense...but when you are making the decision instead of providing suggestions, what happens is different. Blaney used players differently than Calhoun...Kimani did things differently than Dan Hurley.
Perhaps ASU played better defense on Kaluma? We were certainly not double teaming Kalkbrenner, so the should have been someone playing tight defense on him. I do recall that Kaluma made a couple of 3-point shots while being tightly guarded. Unfortunately that happens when a shooter is hot. We have seen that our defense beyond the arc has not been the best part of the defensive effort over this season.
Let’s be honest about nova. Kimani did great. But he really didn’t do much different than Dan. At least in crunch time. I thought kimani waited too long to get Hawkins or Polley in at end . Watch the last 5 minutes again. Starting lineup. Couldn’t score. Defended very well. Finally got Polley in and called a great play for him. A huge 3. A fortuitous tie up. And a cole right handed prayer. Game over. And we earned it . But kimani rode the starters for way too long scoreless. Just like Dan.
Exactly. For those who say Creighton is a "bad matchup", I say that's nonsense. Sanogo played poor defense on Kalkbrenner for much of the second half and that was the difference in the game. I look forward to seeing us play Creighton again. Correct those mistakes and you get the win.
