Yeah. Hopefully Hurley is basically a done deal. Great hire for Georgia though.

P5 or not, basketball prestige-wise we're still the most attractive job opening out there (aside from Louisville but they've got their own issues). Would be very surprised if it's not Hurley.

I don't get it. A backup option that most don't want any piece of us telling us to F off by joining a lesser program 800 miles away?

Both made it clear he was a backup option.

It’s a lotta money.

I’m curious to see what Georgia pays him. Will UConn pay more than a P5 program with a big time football team?

Indiana hates this guy. I can’t understand the eagerness to hire him after IU.

I also heard the following conversation took place within the Georgia athletic department.

Person 1 “we need to get that weird guy who used to coach in the big 10.”

Person 2 “who, Sandusky?”

Person 1 “no. Close though. Crean.”

Person 2 “oh right. Yes, perfect. Can we get back to football now?”

Question: Seems like everyone is assuming Hurley is coming to Storrs. But what if Hurley goes to Pitt or extends with URI or lands somewhere else? One option I have not seen is naming an interim coach until we absolutely get the right guy. Even if it is another year. We don’t want to screw this hire up. And I truly hope that interim coach is NOT Jim Calhoun. I absolutely love the guy but no way do I want to see him on the UConn bench next year.

I actually think it's the right move for Crean. UGA is a lower-expectation job than UConn or Pitt and certainly IU. He'll have decent financial support from the school (if they're serious about it) and in a power league where he's not stacked behind three or four blue blood programs that his team will never realistically surpass. Only one there is UK. If he wins 24 games and wins a tournament game in two or three years they'll think he's doing a great job.

Good luck recruiting anyone with an interim coach.
