A number of years ago a reporter asked Aaron Judge an inappropriate and bizarre question with political overtones. To his credit, Judge’s response was, “You realize that I play baseball for a living.”
 
That would have been an interesting question had she asked it of Sarah before the interview to giver time to think it over. After all, it's the character of our individual teammates that makes them so special and so successful. But it does get an "F" for timing and setting.

Christy Winters-Scott, a Maryland Hall of Fame basketball player.
She is also the mother of Georgetown's Brianna Scott, who we should see Thursday night.

It's a question thoughtfully addressed possibly in an autobiography; in an on-the-spot TV interview it can be hilarious as in that moment with the stilted interviewer and the "you have to be kidding me" Sarah.

My favorite baseball response was Bryce Harper. He was an 18 year-old rookie and the Nats were playing in Toronto. A reporter said, "So Bryce, you know the drinking age is 18 in Canada right, you gonna go out and get some beers?" Harper brushed it off, and about the third or fourth time the reporter asked it, Harper says," I'm not gonna answer that. That's a clown question bro."

I ordered the tee shirt the next day and still wear it. (Yeah, I have a LOT of tee-shirts, wore one that's 35 years old a few weeks ago.)

ETA: Christy is REALLY tall. even allowing for heels, she must be like 6-4 or something. I know I saw her play in college, don't remember it though.

Yup, they are all from DC suburbs, NoVA specifically. Azzi and Brianna were in the same grade so I’m pretty sure that they crossed paths often during their school careers, especially since they were two of top players in Virginia.

I think Christy Winters-Scott generally does a very good job covering women's basketball, and it's clear she's knowledgeable about the game's history and its current players. And, as a former player and now a mom of a current player, she brings a unique perspective to her job.

I now understand what she was getting at with her question, but perhaps it was better suited to a time other than the post-game interview. She was actually on Instagram after the game, interacting with some commenters who were calling her out for her question. She thanked her critics for watching and complimented Sarah and Azzi for being gracious interviewees. I admired the way she handled it.

Agree with your assessment of CWS. Additionally, I will add that she is normally a voter on the weekly AP WBB poll (although this week she did not cast a vote). IMO, she maintains a pretty rational voting record week-to-week.
 
The interesting thing about Sarah is that if you ask her "inside the game" questions, she usually has a very insightful response reflecting a deep intuitive understanding of basketball. On the other hand, asking a question that is not relevant to the game itself, which she was not expecting, which uses a phrase that is an historical allusion, is I think actually impertinent and she handled it perfectly.
 
I thought it was funny in a sort of cringe-worthy way. My take on Sarah's response...

At first I thought maybe she didn't understand the words, but as I watched it a second time, I think what she didn't understand is how on earth that question had anything to do with basketball. Hence the "Um... I don't know how to answer that". And I think @oldude was spot on with his Aaron Judge reference - Sarah seemed like "um... you know I am a UConn college basketball player. Not sure how the content of my character has anything to do with how I play on the court. Please ask me something relevant!". 😉

I disagree that the question had "nothing to do" or was "irrelevant" to Sarah's basketball play. CWS asked: "What is the content of your character as a competitor."

CWS was obviously asking what it is about Sarah's character that makes her such a competitor in UConn basketball games—a standard (softball) sports interview inquiry. My guess is that Sarah didn't understand, or couldn't immediately process, the stiltedness of a sentence with MLK's 63-year-old speech fragment, so she wisely declined to answer.

As mentioned, CWS had successfully used a similar interview question with Azzi Fudd earlier in the day.

Three or four inch heels? More like six. Christy did seem enthusiastic and lively in front of the camera but the ones she interviewed a little puzzled of why an interviewer would want to tower so much over her interviewees on national tv. Was that for some effect? Just looked very odd. Geno looked uncomfortable and probably had to have a neck massage after his interview. The better half came in the room right at the time Geno's interview was ending and seeing him next to her asked, "Whoa, who is that giant woman?" 😀
 
As far as I can remember Geno asks Rebecca Lobo to remove her heels before she interviews him!

that's the 1st thing I noticed but for when she was interviewing Geno first
