You may be responsible for killing a conference before actually joining it, shortly after destroying a conference before actually leaving it. I think it is pretty clear that adding these two programs was never popular in Tallahassee or Clemson and was further evidence (at least in their minds, maybe reality) that Tobacco Road is serving their own interest. If we use 2009 athletic revenue, which is the earliest I could find, as a stand in for the value a school can bring then I really believe that the ACC would have been better off: a)doing nothing (6 ACC teams earned more than the #1 Big East Program, UConn), b) added UConn and WVU ($54M each, #39 and #40 overall), or c) UConn and Rutgers ($54M and $50M each and trying to sow up (to the extent that is possible) NYC.

Pitt was just a joke and I really don't understand the defense for adding this program. BC should be taken out to the shed for pushing them down that path.

Might be one of the truer things ever written about this round of expansion - if it ain't, it's certainly one of the funniest.

It's a great one liner. Unfortunately, it doesn't change the fact that, as of this moment, I'd still rather be in their shoes than in ours.

We still have shoes?

Why, that's something we can build on!

Pitt maybe. Syracuse's shoes could look a lot like ours by the end of the week.

If only we had a wheelbarrow, that would be something.

Fine. Let the ACC and Big East complete the merger that has begun. FSU hasn't been worth a damn for years anyway. If the original BE football conference lost WVU, but added UConn plus UMD, UVA, UNC, NS State, WF Duke, and GT, would any of us have thought it a bad conference? Do you really think it is now? Don't get so caught up in current performance. Oregon used to stink. K-State was the worst program in D1A at one time. Iowa was a power. Auburn, Bama and LSU had rough patches. Tennessee is still in one and UGA and Michigan may be on the way back.

Now obviously I don't understand all f the workings of where revenue is generated from I assume much of it comes from tv deals and so forth. But how did BCU generate 64 mil and Uconn a little less 63 mik when BCU is a dumpster fire in sports with terrible attendance? Doe it have something to do with hockey or is it more so the conference tv contracts?

BC is still realizing revenue from the point shaving scandal

Your wish is obvious. Just like mine that Rutgers and UConn football fade into quasi-1 AA status from whence you recently came.

But the ACC has existed since 1953, it is built on geographic proximity, all its members play both major sports, they have deep cultural ties, and they have a contract that ensures an average of $17.1M a year for the next 15 years. While others may earn a few million more, (a) sports revenues are a tiny fraction of what it costs to run a university, and (b) travel costs and lower fan interest/attendance will offset the extra revenues. To think that 9 of 14 teams are going to leave their own conference to be some variation of Texas's bitch is just silly.

And this is why you are a . Personally I'd like BC, UConn, RU and Syracuse all competitive and in the same league.

I think the ACC will survive but it has nothing to do with 1953, although I dont blame a Syracuse fan for living in the past - the present is a nightmare.

It probably won't happen, but if the Big Ten comes calling nobody's going to refuse their calls, and if there's a general atmosphere of panic that might push some schools to the tipping point.

The deep cultural ties of the ACC don't include yankee private schools. Keep the nostalgia burning for a past that never included you.

Have fun being Tobacco Road's bitch.

I'm disappointed. Every line I had was already taken.

Hey Matt, go on your own board if you want to thump your chest, okay?

I'm a because our fans don't get excited about playing UConn in football ? Geez, who needs to get a clue. Good luck against Michigan. Will this be the first time you've ever played a big national game during the regular season, apart from that one bowl you played in that anybody cared about ?

I mean, just read this thread. This is so sad for all of you. This is why tradition matters. This is why playing good schools every year matters. You don't get any big wins without playing any big teams. Congrats on stepping it up. Now let's see you win a half dozen or so of these, and then we can start to talk. We beat Notre Dame twice in recent times, in our worst patch in our school's entire history. And that's you best win ever, over a ND team.

This is the most active board when it comes to conference realignment. I stay quiet most of the time, so I think you can take it once in a while, especially when people on here start talking some really stupid stuff. Although I will give you credit, that line about killing 2 conferences was a good one.

the wvu board is alot more nuty then here. i try to keep this place on its toes but the wvu board gets about 30 new threads a day that would make me seem like ivy talent.

No, but we have plenty of rivalry with Pitt, BC, Miami (who we played going back to the 60s) and Va. Tech. We have also had home-and-homes with Fla State, NC State, have played Clemson in a bowl game, Georgia Tech in the Kick-Off Classic at the Meadowlands, Wake Forest recently, etc. So we've got enough history for fans to be actually interested in playing these schools, unlike the dreck that they've assembled in the NNNNNBE.

Despite you being one of the worst offenders, I like my rumors to be somewhat reality based.

You are a for hoping UConn and Rutgers go back to FCS. But i guess it makes sense because Syracuse went in the tank as soon as
UConn entered the league.

We don't really like playing Syracuse because the games are generally boring blowouts, and it's confusing to newcomers like us how a team so bad could have been good at some point in the past.

I don't even know how to respond to someone so stupid they reference a bowl game when talking about the regular season.

Syracuse can win 10 straight Orange Bowls and I'll still be better off than you, since I don't have to associate myself with Ithaca or the rancid shithole that is Syracuse.

do i rank just under the fine family in your mind?

cuse is on the bc fast track. live in the past and collect paychecks. have a decent bball program in the big east and as soon as the league to join tobacco road they will flop just like bc. what will keep them alive in there minds is having great lax like bc has puck. fun days are ahead in cuse.

Are you people crazy? If the ACC comes calling, we are so there.

IthacaMatt,

Your fans don't get excited playing us? How come every time you play us in CT, you send mor visitors than just about anyone.

You guys don't like us enough to stay in the BE, which is not insult considering Mizzou and Nebraska didn't like their former rivals enough to stay in the Big 12,

You make good points, but your nature negates any good points you make.

Props to OP on that line. It's funny because it's true.

This is a good board because we tolerate the occassional douchy 'cuse poster here. If you like it so much go back to your own mods and tell them not to so quick to ban anyone not wearing orange, ...run along now.
