Great Game by Tiff. Hope she keeps it up, she'll be needed against Duke and ND.

Bria and KML had good games as well.

She's in good company right now. Does anyone know how much she'll need to crack the top 10?
143 pts to tie #10, Ann Strother

UConn's Leading Scorers #8 to #11 Tiff needs 144 points to pass Ann Strother for #10 Thinking there's at least 15 games remaining on the schedule, Tiff only needs to average approx 10 points per game to pass Ann.

8. 1,990 Renee Montgomery, 150 games, 2006-09
9. 1,865 Svetlana Abrosimova, 127 games, 1998-01
10. 1,699 Ann Strother, 143 games, 2003-06
11. 1,678 Shea Ralph, 128 games, 1997-01

Great game for Tiff! Congrats!

Build on this for the Duke game.

This was about the time of the season when one Tina Charles started to play at a new level in 2009. If Tiff can finish her senior season like Tina finished her junior season, it will be a great success.

Tiff is now averaging 15.7. With up to 19 games left, she could score about 300 more points. She should pass Ann and has an outside shot at Sveta.

She is also tied with Stef as our leading rebounder at 5.7 per game.

If Tiff puts up a few more really big games, especially against good competition, she could get her name on the wall. I'd love to see it.

I'm one of the people who, in the past, was quick to point out Tiff's chronic inconsistency, and, in particular, her tendency to disappear in big games. I make no apology for that...the assessment was fair. But what we're seeing now, to continue to be fair, is a very different player. As a Senior, she's finally assumed the role of team leader, and is playing with the confidence of a leader. Shooting, of course, is all about confidence, and her numbers reflect that....but her transformation is about much more than the number of points scored. She's contributing mightily in all aspects of the game, and, in my opinion, we're going to see a huge season finish for her. Congrats to TH!!!

My main concern about her game, aside from her struggles against elite teams, was the lack of a pull-up game. Well, last night, and the game before, she pulled up once in each game and made the shot both times. If I weren't a lazy slug, I would have jumped off the couch and high-fived the screen. That, for me, was the cherry on top of the sundae in her delicious performance last night. She becomes so much more of a complete offensive player and if she continues to try that shot, I think it will open the door for her against better teams.

BTW, I thought SU looked generally pretty well coached last night, especially compared to some other more highly visible teams I've seen. I gather they have a good recruiting class for next year. It must eat them up to see a Breanna Stewart opt for a plane rather than a local bus to go to college. (Okay, I know, she will likely not take a plane to UConn,).

If Tiff plays at that level consistently for the rest of her college career, UConn will win a national championship. Not saying she will- just saying IF she plays like an All-American game in and out, Uconn will not be beaten.

Put me in the same camp as BigPetunia. The Tiffany Hayes that we are seeing this year is not the same player. It's obvious that she recognized her responsibilities as the only senior on the team and she has risen to Auriemma's challenge from last year. Last night's blowout could have been a snoozer but Hayes' play kept my attention on the game.

I am a little puzzled by Auriemma's comment about Hayes "bashers" (I hate that word - it's stupid) because I can't remember anything negative being said about her this year. Everything I've read here has been praising her for stepping up her game.

The pull up, also, increases the likelihood of defenders going airborne and tiff being able to draw the foul.

I don't want to stir the pot and cause any drama but I remember some negative comments going around, especially during the Stanford game. Before the game was even done, there were some interesting things being said. But I will add that that was a small minority and most people on here aren't "bashers."

Overall, I think sometimes it is forgotten how much Tiffany brings to the team. I think some of her good games over the years tend to fly under the radar. So I'm happy that she had a great showing last night to remind some people how great and special she really is.

To me, Tiffany is the heart of this team, even when she is not it's clear "leader". No one lays more on the line from an emotional standpoint than Tiphayes. This is by far her most endearing quality as a Husky. I am NOT looking forward to seeing her walk out on Senior Night with flowers and such !!

Although I don't think she will be making it on the Wall in the usual manner, I seriously wish they could mount a 4' x 4' piece of Gampel pine on the wall with the #3 emblazoned on it and the caption: "Tiff's Office" !!

I agree totally. A championship season behind All-American Tiffany Hayes would be really great!

There have been several threads on Tiff with many comments about her "not showing up" in games. These would be the folks whose eyes automatically go to the last column in a box score to see how "good" or "bad" a player was in a game.

Nan, we're both thinking the same way. The threads during the Stanford game were a perfect example of that. At least let her finish the game before you jump all over her.

I've always appreciated her energy, her defense, and especially this year, her rebounding. There are other facets to the game than just scoring. And you can't deny that she's been scoring for the past 4 years. You don't make it that high on the scorer's list doing nothing. Her experience and passion can take this team a long way. Let's just say I'm dreading Senior Night! :(

+1

This remains a central truth for UCONN WCBB, as it has been for a year or two

That makes sense. I never read game threads - too long for my short attention span.

Hayes was incredible last night. If she plays like that against ND or Baylor we win. She is a unique talent. I think our three guards of Lewis, Hayes and Hartley are the best in the land. If Dolson gets her game together and Stokes improves every game like she is. I like our chances this year. It is all about Dolson and Stokes right now the rest of the team is ready.
