Your disdain for Dawn clouds your comments like others disdain for Geno. The banner whether it just says Consensus #1 Year Ranking would be to commemorate the season of this team and especially those Seniors so that it could be remembered for history sake. There were a lot of records for this team and throughout college women's basketball teams that occurred this year and should be celebrated. It would be a shame to act as if this year did not occur just because there was no tournament. As for only people in SC thinking this team would win it all, I call foul on that. The only team SC had not played in the top 10 of any consequence was Oregon, which would have tested their starting five depth against SC's superior bench. (If UO thought Louisville plays defenses....) They beat 5 top 10 teams and two of the other presumptive #1 seeds. They also beat 13 or 14 of the top 20 teams by an average of 22 pts. Notice not nail biter but outright floggings. Should we throw out Ionescu's accomplishments this past year because the tourney did not occur? Dawn should find a way to ensure this team's efforts are not easily put away in a closet because of the lack of a tournament.
Oh, you're right. How silly of anyone to raise even the faintest voice of opposition. Once Dawn Staley stepped to the mike and said "we're ready for our NCAA championship trophy now," the rest of the country should've just bowed down in unison. After all, any team that loses to Indiana by double digits on a neutral court is clearly invincible.

True, almost as silly as claiming a national championship when no tournament was played.

1. South Carolina isn't claiming an NCAA national championship to my knowledge.

2. It's a lot less silly to talk about being consensus #1 in the final polls when no tournament is played.

You certainly can voice your opposition to South Carolina being named #1 in the final AP and Coaches poll if you want.

I think that probably is a little silly, but no one said you couldn't do it.

I'm not sure what Indiana has to do with anything. No one said South Carolina was unbeatable and presumably the voters in the final polls were aware of it.

Maybe you can get the National Media to publicize the split decision in the Boneyard poll.

Every other team lost at least two games. South Carolina played as difficult a schedule as any team. No doubt in my mind SC would have been a serious contender for the NC. However, no NC banner should be flown in any arena for this season because we had no NC tournament to determine that team. As for Dawn saying SC was ready for the trophy, I believe that statement could be made by many of the WBB coaches. I respect Dawn and the SC fan base, they are a credit to WBB.

What I find interesting on this discussion is many people's interpretation of what they think and want the NCAA to do. Dawn thinks if the NCAA is going to "declare" a champion for NCAA WCBB, it should be her Gamecocks.

I think the fact she is making such an assumption OUT LOUD to the public is what rankles people. I certainly could see a case being made for Oregon as well as they have played as well as SC has over the past 4 weeks and against tougher competition.

We also have to remember that all the NCAA Football Championships were decided by AP Voting until recently but everyone knew that. If the NCAA were to decide to "award" an NCAA Title, they would/should announce how that would be handled by AP/Coaches polls so everyone knew what was at stake. I have my reservations that the NCAA will do that.

I say congrats to both SC and Oregon on great seasons, but neither seems logical to hoist a banner saying #1 in the country as none of the voters knew this was the method and maybe some change their votes knowing that.

Just my humble opinion...continue as you will...
