Wow talk about clicking on all cylinders. As a team we were looking that good. A big key is our guard play. There were two times that we werent clicking. Early on we were not clicking and when Geno brought in the non starters we werent clicking. What changed that was our guard play. Having KK and Heckel on the floor played a huge role in getting us clicking. We seemed to be rushing shots and seemed to settle down when the guards took control. They also were terror with their defense to get us rolling. Our team defense is just WOW and that makes us go.

It was great to see Caroline knock down some long range shots. Thats something we need and need from more players. Kayleigh Allie Ash and Caroline will provide more outside scoring and more pull up jumpers as the season moves on.

When Blanca gets back she will need to get up to speed playing UConn BB in Genos system. There is no doubt with her athleticism she will create havoc on both sides of the ball. Just watching her in exhibition games shes all over the floor and her presence will inject energy into the team.

I watched some of the other games this weekend. Nothing compares to what UConn is doing. There were some top ranked teams and I can only imagine what UConn will do to them when and if they face each other. UConn is at a different level and I dont think its even close. Putting the pieces of the puzzle together is Genos job and yesterday it looked really good.

It all starts with learning the fundamentals, then executing the fundamentals in practice then in the game, then practicing them again and again and again until they become reflexive and you dont have to think about them when you doing them. Just reacting to situations. Then you do it again and again and again to make sure you dont loose what youve become. Practicing fundamentals helps you to reach a new level.

Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice practicing how to do things the right way makes perfect practice. Practicing the wrong way only instills in you the wrong way to do things. Thats why Geno has accomplished what he's accomplished and continues to achieve at the highest level. It all starts with learning the basics and practicing the basics over and over again.

This UConn team will go down as one of the best. They must remain healthy and coachable. Number 13 isnt to far away.

The fundamental with which they struggled during the first 1.5 quarters: the ball goes through the hoop. 😉
Fortunately they’re fast learners.

Tonyc, you are the man! As always, articulate and knowlegeable. I'm one of your biggest fans. This team is a team of DESTINY that has a lot to do, now and in the future. All they have to do is take it a step at a time and it will happen. I'm looking at 3 years of total dominance in Women's BB. GO HUSKIES!!!!!

If I may...and NOT meaning to reduce the exceptional comments of our esteemed colleague, Tonyc,.... as the 1st quarter was dragging on, and our ladies were having trouble finding the bottom of the net, especially from 3point land... I got a text from my Sister-in-Law in Connecticut... she wrote one word... "Mikes?".... I realized I had NOT yet opened a Mike's Hard Mango... which, as some of you may recall, is my go-to drink when I watch UCONN Women. Well, within a few swigs of my 1st Mike's Mango, the cover came off the basket and the Huskies pulled out to a big lead.

Never doubt the power of a Mike's Mango ☺️😉😉

What gets my attention, this season
is the.sheer amount of superior talent on hand
Unlike anything I can recall
And we still haven’t seen our Italian superstar
And delighted to see Caroline’s return to form
Hard to imagine any team challenging us at this point.

Last year the cast was assembled for Paige to get her and the team's title. This year feels as if it's for Azzi (last time around) and for Sarah. I can't remember a better all-around assemblage of talent in the 30 years I've been watching the Huskies.
PS/Geno's last presser explained a lot about my concerns (small as they are). He was very good. I wondered how Serah was missing so many bunnies (not used to the pace), and how K9 is starting to thrive in Coach's system (focus on mid-range). Little was said of why Ash is lagging, really doesn't look like herself at all. Wonder why. I love her attitude and energy and big smile. Hope this is a harmless blip.
Almost forgot to express my pleasure at seeing Caroline play like the old version. And, quietly, Jana is getting better.

We do have a deep talented team this year. Over the summer as threads talked about how good various players were or could be, and who would start and who in the main rotation, it did occur to me that there could be more players showing they deserve more than mop up minutes than can realistically be accommodated. As potential problems go a pretty good one.

I can see this team being very good even by UConn standards. We are only two games in so I'm still wait and see. Still, I have that feeling of old that no team will enter a game with us as the favorite. I really look forward to seeing how this season plays out.
