Oh well, I was hoping for a commit from him on Sunday. I love this kid's game. He looks like a total load on offense.

According to Borges he is very excited about UConn offer and scheduling an official. Hopefully he enjoys his visit. He is the type of 4 year player that is valuable to a team.

We'll know where we stand with Abu long before then, so either we can sell him on being the next Jeff Adrien or be honest with him about being a career backup.

Guessing the kid, if he elected to still come to UConn, wouldn't be expecting a back up role and who knows!!

I knew this was a super-hypothetical, but I asked Eric Bossi where we could expect Bonzie Colson to be ranked if he was 6'8" or 6'9" with the same skill set (currently has him as #146 in the rankings released today). Here was his response:
Heck of a hypothetical, but I'd say maybe top 50? Gets an awful lot done as a 6-foot-5 power forward. I really enjoy watching him play and appreciate that he accepts who he is and what his strengths are. Wish more kids did that.

Bonzie Colsons help win championships. This kid will be here 4 years and is a leader and is quite mature. I know he isn't ranked the highest but I take him every time.

Could not agree more. No shame in taking a kid like this who has all the bball ability but maybe not appear to be as sexy or will make as big an impact. The kid has a motor and actually bball ability as opposed to being a stud athlete...no harm in that!

I want Banzai in the fold and when he consistently brings in double digit rebounding numbers, @mauconnfan and I will point out what UConn has been lacking in the front court since JA.:)

Was Banzai intentional or just an awesome autocorrect?

This would be a huge get even if we don't grab Abu or any other of our other "Power Forward" type targets. And I have a feeling we will get another big man other than Colson. But a combo of Colson and Facey down low sounds beastly. Those two, based on what I've heard, will outwork any big stud opponents.

I love grabbing the "blue collar" kids who are tougher than the often spoiled top recruits. They have a sense of gratitude and work ethic/killer instinct that many top players at a young age don't have due to natural ability allowing things to come slightly easier.

Those top players do get it eventually but it usually takes them a lil longer. Just my opinion. I know I'm generalizing here.

Visits are not quite set yet:
@Coast2CoastHoop: Bonzie Colson still working on visits. Said his UConn visit in October may be unofficial. Notre Dame, Miami & Florida St getting officials.

Kid can be solid once he hits that weight room some and bucks up. 6'11" wing spands gonna help him pull down some boards.hope it's for us.

Could not agree more. I think a college weight program would do wonders for this kid.

A post player with the skill and strength to demand a double-team in the post is a rare jewel in the college game. Colson has that kind of ability.
His height may keep him from being a lottery pick but he will definitely produce in the college game.
