Colorado State is expected to make UConn coach Jim Mora the school’s next head coach.

Two random thoughts.

1. AD Dave has to be pissed after investing so much time vetting Mora

2. Is Sammis a viable candidate or too green?
I don't know if Benedict is that upset with Mora as he did everything Dave wanted. He brought UConn football respect. And, Mora is going to turn 65 next season, so the move by Mora just accelerates the timing of the next coach. And, UConn will get $1.5 million in the buyout.

Colorado State is really not a lateral move as far as facilities go. Big new stadium, average 35000-40000 attendance, more regional exposure, more $$
Academics are another story

You're not informed. It's been the little engine that couldn't since forever.

A buddy of mine is telling me Dave isn’t surprised and we have a candidate pool ready to go. This will move fast if we don’t strike out. He has a good source.
If Sammis is not considered for the position there is a good chance he is gone - could be going with Mora after the bowl game. Main concern is which players are going with Mora to Colorado State.

I believe it will be far more important to find someone with enough vision to understand what UConn football can be.

We need our football program to either find a Jim Calhoun; someone who comes in believing it's doable, or a Geno; someone who comes in believing it will get him to a destination school, only to build the program into the best destination possible.

We don't necessarily need to do this with our next hire, but the only acceptable alternative I can see would be another veteran coach who can keep stability while continuing steady improvement for the handful of years he has remaining.
You said what I was trying to say before my first cup of coffee. Agree 100%. My reference to "making UConn into something it's not" was more directed to some of the coaches that would come in and try to LSU us, etc, etc.

It sure feels like Mora is heading to semi-retirement in Fort Collins, and I do not begrudge him this decision at all.

We need an X's and O's wizard and talent evaluating skills. Recruiting doesn't matter in the transfer portal era, so I don't care about that, at all.

Been thinking about it... upset yes, angry no. Always felt like he wanted to go back West and he certainly accomplished all we could've asked for. Brought the program back to respectability and had some fun along the way. We're in a much better position than we were the last time we had to hire a coach. Left this place much better than he found it. Let's go get us a new coach

This is horribly uninformed. First of all, our facilities are amazing and our athletic department has a budget 35% higher than theirs. We have one of the very best athletic departments in the country. Our stadium is not new, but it’s nice and it has an awesome tailgating scene. Lastly, I’ve watched countless CSU games with empty stands (I’m a junky).

We are unique. We lost our Power Conference status. We were still bringing in 25k to watch community colleges and nearly sold out for Duke.

This is a west coast guy that loves the Rockies moving back west. It’s no big deal. I’m a New England guy in Florida. I’d take a job in CT that paid what I make here in a second. It’s home. Your roots run deep.
Colorado state does average over 33,000 fans per game. Football is number 1 sport compared to number 3 sport at UConn. There is also a path to CFP. But I think Mora took the job to go back West

Dave has a good record of hiring coaches (he was forced to hire Ollie). I have faith he'll get the right guy.

I am sure it’s been said before but I have mixed feelings on this…

1.) Do I think it’s a good move for him, and his legacy. No. He was building something here that he would be remembered for decades to come.
2.) Does it feel Edsall like? Yes. Skipping bowl game? Departure can’t wait for 3 weeks. For Colorado Ste…..hmmm… this feels like lateral move.
3.) Does it impact his legacy here now that it’s over… yes, a bit.
4.) Is our program finished? No.

It’s time for a reset all around and we should be looking to upgrade coaches - we’ve made some mistakes before - missing available and assistant coaches that turned out to be top notch.

I think we have to act quick so we lose many of our recruits / players.
Time is of the essence.

I would imagine Benedict has a list of candidates to replace any coach. What if Geno all of a sudden decides to retire or Hurley takes an NBA job ....? You have to be prepared for anything and can't be caught off guard. I would love to get a peak at those lists.
So true.

We can hang our heads this week but then we must move on - look at it as an opportunity.

I fear the general public will not be interested in the new HC unless it’s a very flashy hire and/or he goes above .500 next season and keeps UConn football looking relatively exciting.

It’s going to be another exhausting round of trying to coax people to come to games. We don’t have the luxury of other schools where huge crowds are turning out for football no matter what. Just a shame. God help us if we whiff again and/or next season is a disaster.
