Colorado State is expected to make UConn coach Jim Mora the school’s next head coach.

And possibly his frustration with being third on the pecking order with media coverage at UConn. I found his press conference snark a few weeks back surprising and now perhaps indicated something deeper here.
He’s losing Fagnano and Bell. We probably aren’t getting nine wins next year and he’s not getting younger. It’s a seize the moment move for Mora.

Sort of. I think it’s more like seize semi-retirement. He’s getting old and wants to be out west long term. This is another low pressure build job. Basically, repeat the UConn model while being close to home and the Rockies. It’s probably a very smart move for him.

I knew after the last B12 debacle, but this is the blaring alarm sign that we’re never getting the power conference invite. He wouldn’t leave if it was on the horizon, this program is officially on the clock.
I think you aren't seeing the whole picture. I won't be panicking unless DB hires RE, PP, or BD, and I doubt he would.

What we need is someone who'll be here and step in and tell the recruits that you are welcome to stay (I think most will decommit) and be ready for when the portal does open.

5 years ago, I was bleak at the prospect of UConn FB, and I wanted lacrosse to be a sport, yet I'm optimistic that DB will get a coach that will keep us in the news. I doubt we will go back to winless seasons and appearances of the ESPN bottom 10.

Maybe DB and Jim will meet and discuss it...

Seize the moment?!!!
You seize the moment to take USC. Or Oregon.
Taking Colorado State, is a message. It’s either I want to be closer to West Coast or I am upset with Admin at UConn or something.
Maybe the conference affiliation.

I think Mora will be classy in his departure if he does leave.

Didn’t someone say Mora has never quit a FB job. Maybe that holds

I’ll say this, there were rumblings about him leaving 2 months ago. I got a message from someone with some ties to the program asking if I had the most recent FOIA for his contract and buyout language in it, so someone was on the scent back then… My guess is Mora was a bit frustrated with the resources & not being in a conference. Strike while the iron is hot type thing.

Aaaah, well.

Gotta give Jim props, tho. He weathered that brutal 2nd season and built the program back up. Good luck to him and we have to have faith in "Athletic Director.....Dave."

This is a disaster. We are losing our offensive weapons and all of our defense again. The portal will be an absolute show with the program in chaos. Edwards will get poached. What decent coach will want to jump into that mess. We could go back to a 2 or 3 win season next year.

This. Yes, CSU has more stability being in a (any) conference, but if this is true it has more to do with wanting to live in the Rockies.
I guess you get spoiled skiing in the Rockies. The best ski area in the Northeast is mid pack as compared to the Rockies. Yes we have Killington nearby, but do international skiers go the Killington or Vail? Or to Mount Snow or Aspen?

There are lots of guys who want to be head coaches and are looking for the chance to prove it. Right now, as an independent, this is a very tough situation to win at. It's also an opportunity for someone to make their name, and move up. I know the idea of being a stepping stone sucks, but for now that can be a lure to get a guy here. And the evidence that you CAN win is right there, so that needs to count for something I think.

Until that ink is dry on the Colorado State contract, AD Benedict better try anything possible to keep JM....

This should've been JM's last job to roll into retirement. We finally have momentum to get into a good conference and cannot fall back into the abyss.

A couple other thoughts I have is that maybe AD Benedict is leaving, and with a senior-laden team and losing his top three offensive threats, JM expects a bad year and decided to jump before that happens to protect his career value.

Definitely would like to give Neuheisel a shot. A blast from the past Skip Holtz? Holtz has won three straight USFL championships. He's 61, but really started this thing before leaving to coach with his Dad at South Carolina.

I think this makes it more clear than ever that if we are going into a P4 conference it won't be until the contracts open in four or five years. There will be no big 12 invite coming in the next 12 months, the ACC has s not expanding unless you take an SMU deal, etc. and Mora must have known that from constant internal discussions with Benedict.
