It would've been really interesting, I'm just not convinced the CFP committee would ever view UConn as a top 11 team and would protect their P4 interests. Hopefully we can force their hand at some point and test the theory

In all candor, I'd greatly prefer someone like Butch Jones (i don't see how Arkansas St is a better situation) than a gamble at this point.

Yes, there are some names that I would want nothing to do with even though I do believe they could win here (Brian Kelly tops the list), but one thing we cannot afford is striking out on our next hire. We may never be able to shed the label that we can only win with a very high quality coach who also will leave as soon as any other school offers him a job.

This has a ring of truth. If he was planning to get out this was the year to get out since there is a good chance the team slips next year.

Jim Mora informed me late last night that he has accepted the head coaching position at Colorado State.

We are grateful for Coach Mora's contributions to UConn over the past four seasons. He took on the challenge of rebuilding our football program and delivered results that exceeded expectations. Under his leadership, the Huskies won 27 games and achieved bowl eligibility in three of his four seasons, including back-to-back nine-win seasons for the first time in program history.

Coach Mora brought energy and a winning culture back to UConn football and put our program back on the national stage.

We thank Jim for his dedication to our student-athletes and wish him, his wife Kathy and his family the best at Colorado State.

We now turn our attention to finding the right leader to build on the foundation that has been established and continue moving UConn football forward.

Offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis will lead the team in the interim as a national search for the next head coach at the University of Connecticut will begin immediately.

For me, it depends on the type of retread. I don't want a guy that had one or two decent to good seasons but has struggled recently. Its why I don't understand why some people are so infatuated with Moorhead. The guy is 13-35 at Akron. He can't even win in the MAC. But we want him here?

I'm fine with a "young up and comer" only if it's a guy who has proven success at a lower level like Reno (and it helps that he would bring his son who was basically a top 500 recruit a couple years ago.)

I mostly agree, definitely can't strike out whoever the hire is. That's why I lean towards going the experienced/retread route.

In an ideal world I wouldn't have a problem being the stepping stone school for first time head coaches to come here and have success, and then move on to P4 opportunities. But I think it's a big risk because if the first one fails it's a long fall that I'm not sure the program can recover from.

You're spot on. Based on how they used to treat good teams from the AAC, we likely would have been no higher than 15th, and probably closer to 20th (like 17-18 feels right.) They wouldn't have even let us sniff the playoff.

We likely would have been top 10-15 in the AP though.

I woke up at 3am to pee, used my phone as my flashlight, and like an idiot, checked the boneyard while standing there. Let’s just say I’ve been awake since 3am. I’m calming down but I still feel like I’m allowed to be angry. I’m not ready to send Jim off with good words quite yet but I’ll get there. This sucks
