That’s the real story. The WNBA three exciting rookies who will be the faces of their franchises for years to come in. Few people remember that the NBA was struggling until rookies Larry Bird and Magic Johnson became the face and their rivalry became the face of the league.
I think it will be interesting to see what some of the other rookies do next year and long term: Jackie, Lou, Asia, Kalani, et al. Don't forget Ezi!

I'm in Phoenix, where it's blacked out. I thought about going to the game, but decided that Phoenix doesn't excite me. Of course, I forgot that they were playing Minnesota. And that a blackout was possible.

44-40 PHX at the half

Griner 14 pts, 7 reb

Collier 7 pts, 1 reb, 2 ast

Blackout on WNBA streaming is because the game is being shown on local TV - Channel 34 = FS AZ. Unfortunately the Diamondbacks game is on the same channel and is only in the 8th inning (~8 PM local time). Should be able to see most/some of the 2nd half.

Thank you, my friend! I was a little slow to read this and missed the 20-6 Minnesota run.

I'm seeing MLB highlights. What happened to the WNBA?

In any case, it's a 29-9 Q3 and Pheesa is +21!

69-53 MIN end of third

Collier 13 pts, 1 reb, 3 ast, 1 stl

It looks like Griner may have gotten ejected.

With 2:51 left in 3Q, Cunningham was driving baseline when she got bumped out of bounds by her defender. No foul was called; Cunningham was called for going out of bounds. In arguing the call, Griner got a tech, then Brondello got a tech, then Griner got another tech and was tossed.

Sorry - turns out they moved it to another Fox channel (73) and showed the whole game there. I was only half trying to pay attention anyway and didn’t realize someone had figured this out in the 2nd half, and that this is where I was watching it - duh.

Griner has too much on those big shoulders and maybe she will chuck it and stay abroad or maybe Momma Dee will settle her down off season. As long as she didn't explode on Phee I'm happy.

Yeah, it's the middle of the night here. Coyotes got the dogs up and now I'm up. But that's what afternoons are for (for old coots)....naps, right?? Gotta go find game hi-lites now. ;):D

Taurasi's hamstring injury may well signal a rehab issue with lower back. Been there, done that. Maybe Dee should have done a Bird this season.

My ROY!

I know these digital games are helping to grow interest and revenue but I can't get past the (imho) unflattering graphics.

Last game of the season.
If the Lynx win, they lock up home court advantage for first round of playoffs.
If the Lynx lose, they need Seattle to lose to have home court advantage in playoffs.
The Sparks don't have anything at stake that I'm aware.

Lynx @ Sparks - 9/08/19

AB may be the ROY the WNBA website is giving her a lot of ink...

It'll be a tough choice for the league voters to choose ROY. The award typically goes to #1 picks that lead the league in scoring. So the voter will have to choose whether they want to give the award to the player that scores a lot of points for a bad team, whose point totals will drop drastically once that team has acquired better players, becomes a contender and the offense doesn't revolve around her. A player who plays questionable defense, doesn't really make other players better around her, and needs a lot of shots in order to get her point totals. Or the voters could choose a great team player that makes everyone around her better, that doesn't need the ball in order to help her team win, who has done something in her rookie year that only 3 other players have ever done, makes life difficult on offense for the opposing team, and has the potential to be the face of the new WNBA for years to come. A forward that is also more likely to make the Olympic team. The ball is in your court voters.

Pam Ward (who was the ESPN2 pbp for the last Lynx broadcast and who also gets a vote), was vehement about Collier being the ROY. Her partner in the broadcast LaChina Robinson was leaning toward Ogunbowale with all her scoring accolades. They were squabbling about it on the broadcast for a couple of minutes.

Not too surprising. LaChina has a bit of the Debbie Antonelli fetish for high scorers.

It was funny. LaChina was saying if she scores 30 the last night, she would have some record and then you have to give it to her. She finished with 25 so I suppose, no award. Nah, I know LaChina will (more than) lean to Arike.

Although I agree that Pheesa should win for her overall brillance on both sides and her year round consistency and efficiency, I do not agree that the team record should be a big factor. It is too much to ask for a rookie alone to affect the team record to that extent.

In an award Most Valuable Player where Value is part of the title, then team records are clearly important but not ROY in my opinion.

That said, I am glad some are using it since that will help Pheesa in the race.
