If you don't even win your own division in your conference, you don't belong in the playoffs. Oregon absolutely should be in over Alabama if they win their conference championship.
Acknowledging Oregon’s blah conference schedule, single top 25 win (6-4 UDub which list to Utah), and UO’s loss to 7-3 Auburn, fair observation on possibly winning the Pac12.

Nike likely agrees, and also hopes their Ducks manage to beat 5-5 Arizona St, the 5-5 Beavers, and likely Utah in a conf championship game.

Now, convince the BCS selection criteria, voters ...

Eh. This isn't any different than the NCAA Basketball tourney where everyone wanks about the last #1 seed and the first #2 seed. And yes, I realize in basketball they all get a chance to hoist the trophy at the end.

Most years there can be a case made for #4-#6 as to who should be #4.

In general I would agree not even winning your division should disqualify you from getting in the final four. Especially with a lack of signature win by Bama this year. I'd much prefer the Pac-12 winner get in. Problem is neither Utah or Oregon have signature out of conference wins and the Pac-12 overall hasn't given them marquee wins except against each other.

CFP members would really like to see Georgia beat LSU in the SEC championship, OSU run through the B1G and Clemson to win ACC undefeated to clean up any mess.

Going down to 6-5 Arizona State and the Sun Devils' true frosh QB, Oregon quacks to 2 losses. Busted BCS wings? Indirectly, potentially weakening Utah's BCS position even before a Pac12 title game ???

PAC is basically eliminated from the playoff with Oregon losing to Arizona St. I'll be rooting hard for Auburn next week. Alabama does not deserve to be in the playoffs. They won't even win their own division this year.

The CFP is a joke. The SEC's best nonconference win is Oregon, but now somehow Oregon losing makes it MORE likely that the SEC will get two teams into the CFP. 6 SEC teams have losses to non-P5 teams. Why is blowing through an SEC schedule considered such an accomplishment when Tennessee is going to go 5-3 in the SEC but has a home loss to Georgia State?

The CFP is as much of a popularity contest as the BCS was.

Georgia would have one of the worst losses by a CFP team in history if they make it.

Turned out to be a real crappy football conference...built on our brand and backs. Aresco took us to the cleaners.

You say that after the AAC finishes the season with 3 teams in the CFP top 25 and 5 in the top 30 of the AP poll?

UGA has gotta beat LSU in Atlanta.
Otherwise, the Utes or Sooners leapfrog. My guess is Ducks win over UTAH and OU tops Baylor. Hurts, not Tua, in the Final 4.
OBTW: Clemson gonna win it all again.

As long as there’s a human element involved, regardless of how much it’s based on a group consensus of nominally objective officials producing the rankings that at least maintain a pretense of objectivity, subjectivity and bias will creep its way into the proceedings.

And any attempt to create a ranking system that maintains more than a veneer of objectivity will beach itself upon the gigantic sandbar that is the overwhelmingly insular scheduling of collegiate football.

I don't watch much SEC football, but watching the UGA/LSU game, how in hell is UGA ranked #4? They're awful.

So Memphis will be going to the Cotton Bowl without their head coach. And the P-5 will point to them and say, “See ... they’re no good”.

Yup, and now 10-3 Wisky led Ohio State in the 3Q before the incoming #1 righted its’ ship.

So, which pro franchise ends up #1 to face #4 OU in the BCS semi-final?

They are far from awful, they just aren't equipped to try and keep up with LSU. You've got to be explosive, and you need to be able to score points in order to have a hope against that team, and Georgia is more of a physical, grind it out team. It's a real bad matchup for them.

Georgia was missing some key offensive players and few thought they had the weapons to hang with LSU. Their #4 ranking was based too many other teams in top 10 lacking strong resumes to push Georgia out.

I'm pretty excited for the playoffs this year. Think anyone of the teams can win this year making every game interesting.

Virginia gets a New Years bowl vs Florida. Notre Dame has a tie in to that bowl and a higher rank, but Virginia gets to play that game because they were in the top 25.

Way to go Notre Dame! Join a conference already.

IF ND waits to join ACC, gives UConn a chance to get a real FB team and decent mens BB team. We could join when they do.
