- It's very interesting to read some of the strengths and weaknesses of these players when they were in high school. After four years of college, some of these players still have these weaknesses.
- Danielle Adams was ranked #53. Bet she's glad she didn't go to Mizzou
- Biggest surprise rankings: Danielle Adams (53), Victoria Dunlap (54), Courtney Vandersloot (64), Angel Robinson (82)
- Lowest player ranked to get drafted: Angel Robinson (82)
- Lowest player ranked to make a WNBA roster: Courtney Vandersloot (64)
- Highest player ranked to get cut: Angie Bjorkland (2)
- Highest player ranked to not get drafted: Marah Strickland (9)

By my estimation:
Ranking & Players Drafted: 1-10 (7), 11-20 (2), 21-30 (4), 31-40 (1), 41-50 (0), 51-60 (2), 61-70 (1), 71-80(0) 81-90 (1)

interesting stuff. i think Angel is the most successful under rated player to come out of HS. a perennial all star and lock for the US National team... she's not in that class of course, but it's always fun to note the players who no one really noticed coming out of HS, who subsequently made it big time...

Interesting. Thanks. So the third 10 did bettter than the second 10.

I think Strickland still has another year left after a transfer, right?

Very interesting - and I think probably not an atypical year - the top tier of talent is pretty clear with a few disappointments based on medical or attitude or just never developing at the next level. After that it is a crap shoot with more weight to higher rankings, but a few surprises of off the radar or late developing talent.

i should have been more clear in stating i was referring to players who were also woefully under rated. Beard is another one. but McCaughtry is the all time IMHO.

I disagree that some of these players were necessarily underrated. The rankings are how the players performed in events where they were seen at a point in time, with some allowance for potential. They cannot predict college coaching, injuries, or things like that.

Back in 2000, Alana Beard's team did not travel that much and was only seen at the Deep South Classic, an ASGR event. So Blue Star had her ranked at #30.

As of the 2012 rankings, ESPN/Hoopgurlz now has seven people who evaluate players and contribute to the rankings. To me, this makes for a broader evaluation panel and a more complete set of rankings, as more individuals can see more players.

But my overall point is that it is hard to say a service "missed" on a player or "underrated" that player, without knowing somoe of the issues I identified above. Nevertheless, if all ranking services had the player ranked pretty low, I feel more comfortable saying that they "missed" on that prospect or that they "underranked" the player.

As for Beard, ASGR had her ranked in the top ten. In fact, Beard was rated as the top-ranked wing player in the country by Mike White's All Star Girls Report.

It was just revealed that Angie had a stress fracture in her left foot this summer while with the Sky and is now back in Knoxville working with Tenn's staff.
