One of my favorite winter Saturday morning traditions is catch a Friday night game on replay and I just finished watching the Nevada/Arizona State game. What a comeback by Nevada.
After awful shot selection in the first half, Nevada played more in control and they really showcased their depth with clutch 2nd half plays from newcomers Trey Porter, Jordan Brown and Jazz Johnson.
The key was Caleb Martin finally playing under control and taking over the game (13 2nd half points).
The player on Arizona State I'd love to have on UConn: Lugentz Dort. I don't remember how close we were to getting Dort, but he's quickly becoming one of my favorite players in college basketball. Bilas was comparing him a lot to Marcus Smart, which is a good comparison in terms of body composition, two-way tenacity and handle on the ball, but Dort is an even better shooter. The kid looks like a fully developed senior for a kid who turns 20 in April. I wouldn't be surprised if he leaves after one year, he's that good and he has that mature frame and understanding of the game. With this team, he'd be a great 3rd guard alongside Jalen and Alterique, allowing Vital to be the microwave guy off the bench.
The player on Nevada I'd love to have on UConn: Jordan Caroline: Such a tough, consistent player and for a guy at that build has a surprising level of quickness. Picturing him at the 4 in a UConn jersey...he'd be a monster down low alongside Cobb or Carlton. My comparison to him is Jeff Adrien, but add in above-average handle and passing for a stocky 4.
